Advantages: great ease of use
Disadvantages: lots of restrictions`
I have to admit that prior to its launch in the UK, I never wanted an iphone, whether 2g or 3g the phone jsut did not interest me. As Ben Elton would no doubt call it, I felt that the device was a classic case of all sytle no content.
I felt this way right up until the moment I got to play with one. I still very much believe that the phone is sytle over content - but what style! I dont even just mean in its looks, because if we are being honest, it looks as attractive as a solar panel. But it is the way that the phone can be used that is so amazing. You do not need to think about how to do things, you dont even need to use the instruction manual (which is a good thing as the phone does not come with one!).
the iphone has dialled down (no pun intended) to the very crux of how you would instinctively use a mobile phone. As an example of what i mean think about the internet: on the iphone if you want to look at something online you just touch it - it is like mobile phones for babies who would just try and grab what they were interested in. There is little need to think about how to do anything with the iphone, the option just seems to be there.
I have had both 2G and 3G iphones, and I have to say that the one thing that drove me to dispare with the 2G iphone was the phones inability to switch off the auto correct speller that changed everything that you typed. dooyoo.co.uk became dooyoo.co.I'm... I am sure that you can see the frustration. But the iphone 3G has a software upgrade that allows you to change this option. Finally a kill button for the most frustrating feature ever.
Things to note about the iphone:
It does not let you play Java games
You cant bluetooth ringtones
you cant send mms
there is no video recorder
the screen wont work if your fingers are cold
These are all points that many people miss.
The iphone is a great device, but I dont think that its the best out there. I was lucky enough to have been given one from my work, so I didnt pay for it. The truth be told, I wouldnt pay for it. But as a free gift it really is something special.
Summary: not the best phone ever. but good

- 08/01/09 You write very nicely and there's some great information here but don't forget that we also want to know how this works as a phone. |
