Advantages: iPhone wow factor, ease of use, multitouch, ipod features, sleek looking
Disadvantages: no video camera, 2MP camera, no GPS, not much else
When Apple entered the phone market, a lot of hardcore mobile phone users wrote them off - i know i did!
Due to being in a contract with Orange, i didn't adopt the iphone when it first came out. I was running a HTC TyTnII at the time, and this to me was the holy grail of all mobile communications...
Let me tell you, i was wrong!
I stumped up the cash for a 8gb iPhone off eBay and proceeded to unlock it so i could use it with my Orange sim card.
I have never looked back since.
The quality of this phone is second to none. The user interface is amazing and the screen is bright, crystal clear and the touch is responsive.
Feature wise, this phone (compared with others) does lack in some areas - for example, only a 2MP camera, no video camera, no GPS, no MMS, not even able to forward a text message.
However, one thing you you have to realise is this is very much a 'myPhone' - as in everything on it is yours and yours only, no sharing music, not taking a picture and bluetoothing it to your friend (although you could email it).
Once you get used to that, you kind of see it as a bonus, almost like you know that whats on it is yours, and nobody else is having it... sounds strange i know.
But then, you get into the App store, and have the whole world of applications at your finger tips - literally.
If you like your music, your obviously in for a treat, as it features everything the iPod Touch does too.
Internet is probably the best feature of the iPhone (apart from making calls of course) - the cut down version of Safari work brilliantly, and with Wifi ability, you'll never be short of a net connection. The multi-touch feature is great - it really impresses non-iphone users when you zoom in by pinching your fingers.
The only downside for me is that i don't have access to all the extra's that the O2 contract holders get - like free wifi access etc... but that's my own fault for using it on Orange, so that can't be held against the phone.
If you get this on O2 with all the extra tariff features then you will be hard pushed to get a better phone/media device.
Summary: You'll be hard pushed to find a better phone!

- 07/01/09 Good start here (but I suggest you watch your spelling). I would have liked to have heard just a bit about how this works as a phone as well as just one or two of those fancy applications you found. |
