Advantages: looks, number of applications
Disadvantages: some people may not like how wide/tall it is
I just got this phone on Monday and I have never had a better phone!
Pros:
1) It is a smartphone, and therefore has many many applications. On some phones I would deem these as unnecesary but I can actually see myself using some of these. E.g. Maps, Wi-fi, Voice notes to go, Password keeper and of course Blackberry Messenger (I will talk more on this in a moment). It is also very beautiful for a smartphone, it is slim and has an easy to use QWERTY keyboard.
2) Installing the disk onto my computer was very easy, and now I can link information between my computer and phone very simply. My last phone had software provided too, but it was much fiddlier and the menus were not nearly as simple.
3) The ability to check e-mail, receive texts/calls, check facebook/myspace, surf the internet etc all on one piece of technology is great, I love being able to have all these capabilities in my pocket
4) The ball/clicker is fantastic. If you are deciding between smartphones, this is a pro that does not feature on any other model. It makes navigating through menus, contacts lists etc. pleasant rather than having to (as I used to have to) click repetedly to move down a list
5) Speed dial. I would not usually put this as a pro for a phone but it is a different concept to other phones. I have never used the speed dial option on my previous mobiles because I would always struggle to remember who I had put down to corresspond with what number and in the end it was always quicker to scroll down my contacts list. However with the QWERTY keyboard it is actually a very convenient idea, because you assign a contact to a letter, e.g. If I want to call Adam, I can assign A to his name, then hold down A whenever I want to ring him. Remembering letters for names, as opposed to numbers is a God-send.
6) Blackberry Messenger. I mentioned this before but this actually needs a whole point dedicated to it. I have several close friends with different types of Blackberrys and it saves me many, many texts from my contract allowance by using this application. It is instant messenging, for those who don't know it, but between Blackberry users only. To add contacts you must exchange your Blackberry PIN number (given to you when you get the phone) which is and 7 letter/number long combination - seriously, pinging BBM IM's back and forth becomes very addictive!
There are many other reasons to buy this phone, it has a good camera, screen resolution and music playback capabilities. However I do not want to exercise your reading patience any longer, if you are considering getting this phone, or indeed any Blackberry, go for it because I assure you, it is impossible to be disappointed!
Cons:
The ONLY con, and I mean it is a very small one, is that I have many contacts with nicknames, e.g. Bell and the phone will not connect their nickname to their facebook page/details as it will with those with their full name, first and surname. Therefore I have some contacts who don't have a photo next to their name but who cares?
Summary: A fantastic choice for anyone, any age, it has attractions for all extremes of the market

- 16/05/09 I've got the 8310 and it's the longest running phone I've ever had, simply because I don't see the need to replace it. It does everything I want it to! |
