This is the first phone with the brand "Google". Although it first appeared in the market in early 2010, its specification still beats many low-end andriod phones. I had used it for about 2 years and had now given it to my dad. He is very happy with it.
The outlook of the phone is quite unisexual and suitable for people of all age groups. There are four virtual buttons at the bottom of the phone together with a trackball. The trackball provides an alternative way to access the phone. It will come in very handy if you are wearing your gloves in the cold weather! However, there is a minor issue in assessing the virtual buttons. You will have to press on it for a little longer to get response.
The monitor is relatively small compared to other new phones in the market now (it's only 3.7 inch). However, the quality of the monitor is high compared to ther other lower-end andriod phones in the market.
There is a 5.0 mega pixels camera available but there is no camera for video conferencing. Given that there are so many video conferencing programmes available in smart phones, it is a bit inconvenient. As for the quality of the photos produced, it is acceptable if you are using the camera to capture a few snapshots and maybe share it on facebook. If you are looking for some high quality photos, take your camera with you. The camera in the phone is no placement to a camera.
The battery runs out really fast (which is a common problem for all smart phones). Unless you are using your smartphone only as a phone (i.e. you don't go online using your phone for the whole day), it is almost necessary to buy an extra battery so that you don't have to charge your phone during the day.
The phone operates on the andriod system so flash is available. Personally I think that it's a big advantage as most websites still use flast and you can't access those websites using iPhone. Besides, while the phone is a bit old, its specification is still sufficient enough to support many apps developed recently. The RAM and the speed of the processor is good enough to support the new apps.
Transferring files to the phone is easy. You use use the USB line (which comes with the package) to connect the phone to your computer and then drag the files into your phone. If you find it troublesome to use iTunes, then you will love using this phone!
Using it as a phone
It does take me some time to adjust from the mobile phones with "real" buttons to using one with virtual "buttons". However, it wouldn't be that difficult once you get the hang of it. However, you may wish to note that it is difficult to see the "buttons" if you are using it under bright sunlight!
The clarity of the sound is quite satisfactory but I found that it depended more on the network than the phone itself. If you are travelling on the road then you may find that your call will suddenly cut off. However, I encountered the same problem after switching to a new phone so I guess it related more to the network.
If there's one thing to complain, then the sound level of the ring is way too low and you will easily miss your call if you are in a noisy place. You can put your phone on vibration but it is not very strong so you may still miss it if you put it in your pocket!
To sum up, it is a good phone under the "Google" brand name. Its specification is still better than many low-end andriod phones in the market and the performance is definitely good. If you have a limited budget and would like to have an adriod phone, consider getting a Google Nexus One. You won't regret about it.
The Google Nexus One. Manufactured by HTC but sold as a Google branded phone, it has a big brother now the Nexus S which is an entirely different beast but lets have a look at this old workhorse for the time being.
The first thing you'll notice about the Nexus One is it's heavy, and solid. This isn't a bad thing being light enough to carry around everywhere and you'll get used to it - infact I quite like it, owning the Samsung Galaxy S 2 now it's hard not to miss that dependable metal feeling. Knowing that the Nexus One can stand up to considerable damage is a high point.
The second thing you'll notice about the Nexus One is that it's fast, sure it's no dual core beast but its 1Ghz processor can still handle the majority of android apps and tasks without too much of a sweat, and it still receives the new android updates before many other phones, making it a must if you love the having the up to date OS.
Unfortunately it comes with a view downsides, the screen whilst nice to look at is a little small by today's standards, and while it is normally quite sensitive it can occasionally freak out - making it very difficult to do normal tasks such as text messaging. This however is rare and can be sorted easily by rebooting the phone. But you really shouldn't have to should you?
The battery life again is a downside, but it's not that much worse than other smartphones. Just be prepared to charge it every night - though there are aftermarket batteries out there. Check out Ebay for them, just be sure to buy a HTC branded battery and not a cheapy. That's never a good idea.
So to round up is this phone worth it? Sure, it's still got plenty of life left in it for my money, it's not future proofed anymore and will probably show its age a year from now, but if your looking for a solid dependable android then this is your phone.
I own this phone and think its great.
It amazes many times through the course of ownership!! Before I bought this phone I had the blackberry bold 9700 but was quite bored with its limited use (watching bbc iPlayer) and complicated bluetooth sending and recieving cr*p. why make a simple option complicated??
I think the nexus one is easy to use and not complicated compared to the:
Apple iPhone 3, GS and 4
Blackberry Bold 9700
These phones are all in a similar league in regards to manufacturer, reliabilty, design, functionality and price.
Being at my mums on a sunday afternoon bored out of my skull, I decided to check out bbc iPlayer to see if eastenders would work on my phone and to my amazement eastenders loaded and i watched 3 episodes. Result, I knew that this was the one.
With a touch screen you lose the option of having a physical keyboard (Alternative Blackberry Torch) but if hi-tec touch screen phones are your thing then this is a market leader (as a user).
I paid £350 odd for this phone in may of this year and was quite excited and nervous at what I was getting, I had read the reviews on the nexus one and was thrilled to find I could buy it on eBay for a bargain price. It was advertised as new but did not come in the original box- no probs as you don't play with the box do you?? :), the original charger and cable, No manual :! (Daunting) however there is a guide buit into the phone even though people still want a tangible guide.
This is googles first (uk based) all touch screen phone supported by HTC, so they share similar features, like the actual interface.
Smooth body work :), many skins are available on amazon and are relativley cheap £2.99 onwards, screen protectors £1.99 and so forth
She is lovely to look at and hold
Her weight is 998 grams
reasonable 5mp camera
My nexus supports wifi (at home usage) and 3G when I am out and about
People dont know what she is...and ask..then i relay the benefits of her like a Jehovah's witness (Pro-JW-btw-lol)
You can visit sites that flash like gucci.com, nearly any site you can visit on a laptop or desktop you can do the same on the nexus one
built-in sat nav that does not require upgrading or subscribing to!! When you use google on a computer you can actually see the road the nexus one has that facility to!! Mant phones on the market now CANNOT compete with this Nexus one....dun kno- as my mate would say-LOL
touch typing is good - vertical or horizontal and fluid too, unlike the copycat x6 or 5530 BOO! I have had these phones too.
market is the place where you go to buy apps for your phone using the android system, has as vastly more apps than the apple store
You need a google account - very easy to set up
when your googlemail is set up you recieve your messages instantly, no waiting
auto-syncing your calendar, facebook to contact in your phone, contacts, note and other features to your laptop or desktop in case you misplace your precious phone
you can transfer you music onto this phone you don't have to convert unlike the iPhone 3 or gs.
Many things to mention but you should experience it yourself : )
Battery life is pants so I carry a charger everywhere, either a car charger or mains.
The screen has frozen a handful of times but you cant have it all, things are bound to go wrong sometimes. Fact!! I combat this by switching it off if that fails I remove the battery and it resets. Simple!!
Battery life- oh i mentioned that already and battery life....
When you experience one of these Nexus one's you know and understand quality as it set a bench mark for other. I have not seen a phone that currently matches in regards to price and reponsiveness that can make me want to sell or have alongside this phone as there are still features that I am yet to use.
However the closest would be the iPhone 4 but I would want to know what the limitations are on it before I bought one.
The first Android smartphone from Google. The phone is created by HTC that's why it's also called HTC nexus one. Very nice and clear amoled touchscreen inclusive multitouch. With 5megapixel camera it is good for taking pictures too. Because it's from google, the apps from google are working perfect (google, youtube, gmail). Like apple, this phone also has voicecommand which makes it possible to command your phone with your voice. You can even 'speak' a text message. It's very lightweight, about 100-150 grams. The only availabe colour you can get it is grey, and the standby time it can handle is 250 hours.
With this phone you have very fast internetspeed because of the HSDPA and UMTS support. You can send very fast text messages as wel as multimedia messages. Looking trough your mail is also possible. The phone has a WAP-web browser so you can visit sites too.
The Google Nexus One has a 512MB intern memory (flash). There is 1 slot for an external microSD chip available. You can transmit data trough USB from and to your pc. The Nexus One also has Bluetooth and WiFi.
I bought this phone in the states in January of this year after seeing a demonstration on T.V.
I have owned all of the previous I-phones and although they are great phones, I am dismayed that Apple constantly restrict the devices and require a jailbreak to make the device my own. This is not the case with the nexus One.
I love this phone, I love the fact that I can simply "Drag and Drop" movies, music, and other files directly to the SD card for viewing on the device, and not have to resort to using Itunes! Its a great device with good looks and functionality. The screen is vibrant and bright and has added flexibility with the option of adding your own SD card to expand storage, which is something you cannot do with the I-phone.
The only down side is that the gaming experience is more highly evolved on the Iphone than this device, however there are still a few good games for the Android OS out there such as Armageddon Squadron, Toon Warz, among others.
I particularly like the Google navigation which is as good as any Tom Tom, although I had to download a modified version to make this work in the U.K., it still works reasonably well.
MP3's are also a huge bonus on this device. Apps such as music junk allow you to download your favourite tracks to the device and play them without having to connect the phone to a P.C. which is a great feature. Also, if you find songs online using the browser, you can download them as you would on any P.C. which is not possible on the Iphone without a 3rd party application.
Having mentioned the browser, I found that the included Android browser rendered pages much more realistically than the Safari Browser included with the Iphone. As a web developer, I test all my sites on various devices and the Nexus One came out on top every time in terms of mobile web rendering.
One other feature I thought I'd mention which the Iphone doesn't have, is the notification bar. When you receive and E-mail or text, or any notification, it is alerted on the top of the phone, like a taskbar looks on a P.C. With this, you simply slide your finger down and this brings the notification panel down, displaying all the recent information. This frees you from having to launch each individual app to receive notices. I really love this feature.
Overall, due to the flexibility of the phone and the freedom it gives you, it really is a formidable contender to the I-phone and well worth a buy.
I purchased this product from google on its release date back in January. Before i purchased it there was a lot of talk about Google not offering much assistance if you ever have a problem with the phone but I decided to go with it anyway.
When I purchased this phone directly from google I paid a little over £440 for it which I thought was a very good price. If you compare it to a lot of phones you will find it is a bit more expensive however I do believe that you will be happy with the purchase.
When I purchased this from google it gets shipped directly from America so i was a bit skeptical at how long it would actually take to arrive. After the payment went through google sent me the tracking number which kept me up to date with where it was in the world. 4 days after payment the phone arrived which I was very pleased with.
The customer service that you get from google I believe is very good. Alot of people say that it is very hard to get hold of them but I did not find any of them problems at all. Maybe it is just different from person to person but I really can not complain with the customer service they have to me.
The display on the nexus one is by far the best display on a phone I have ever seen. The graphics are extremelly good and I really was amazed when I first switched it on. The phone comes with live wallpapers which move in the background which I thought was a fantastic feature to add to the phone.
Overall I am very happy with the quality of this phone and I think that the price tag was well worth it and I would not say it was to expensive. A lot of other brands overprice their products but I can not say this about google. With it being made by HTC you know that you are getting a very reputable brand who knows what they are doing.
