Advantages: Inexpensive, Good touch screen recognition.
Disadvantages: Poor Camera
I loved my old Nokia 6500 but unfortunately it became a victim of myself falling over whilst it was in my pocket. So after not much deliberation, it has to be said, I opted for my first touch screen phone, the LG KP500. The KP500 is your low budget touch screen phone, so has some poor aspects to compromise.
My initial impressions of the phone was how sleek and stylish it looked. The screen size is big compared to the entire phone and it is just about the right size to fit in your pocket nicely. The stylus is well placed, so that is it easy to access but does not deter the design of the phone. When I first started using the touch screen I thought it was fantastic. The sensitivity is just right and there is a little vibrate when you touch the screen which in my opinion is very helpful. I was really impressed with how well the touch screen recognition works as well. It is flawless in recognising what you input. I can't tell you how immensely satisfying it still is using the touch screen.
Texting is particularly tricky at first to a touch screen novice like myself. You have the option of hand writing recognition which is tricky, therefore I never use it. The other two options are your standard mobile phone keypard and a QWERTY keyboard. The QWERTY keyboard is easy to use if you are still but if i'm on the bus i'd always opt for my preferred predictive text option. Phone calls are pretty standard and I have had no problem with them and see them as no different to any other phone.
The battery really is a double edged sword, with it going down quicker than Homer Simpson to a donut if you're using it fairly regularly but lasting forever if you don't use it much. The phone comes with your standard features such as an alarm, calculator, notes, bluetooth, an organiser, video, music player and mobile internet. A cool feature the LG has is the drawing panel where you can use the stylus to create some neat little drawings which is strangely satisfying. I say use the stylus because using your fingers is a nightmare on this mode!
For me the major let down of the phone is the 3 megapixel camera. I like to take pictures of where I travel to and the quality is barely sufficient, but I suppose for an entry level touch screen phone, some sacrifices have to be made.
On the whole though I like the LG and it is good value for money but you can see why it justifies the lower price tag.
Summary: A good value for money touch screen phone.
