Advantages: Touchscreen and good media player
Disadvantages: No wi-fi or GPS
LG have done it again. I'm a bit of a fan of these phones and they continue to impress me. The KP500 is a good feature set phone and looks a lot better than it actually is. So is that a negative comment?
Well no. There's a very good and vibrant touch screen with resistive feedback, handwriting recognition and accelerometer. The phone looks pretty cool though functional and it's light in the hand. The phone is coming in at around £100 which is pretty good value and whack in the middle range of similar specced phones.
Obviously there are some omissions to keep the cost down but 3G capability is one feature I felt should definitely have been included. The big ones to be cut are Wi-fi and GPS and this is understandable. Online access is dealt with by the ageing GPRS and also EDGE. Java is supported and there is wide range media player to keep most people happy.
The details
2G GSM
TFT resistive touchscreen @ 240*400 pixels
Flash based interface
3.2m camera
Accelerometer
Handwriting recognition
Speakerphone
1000 entry contact book
Up to 16Gb storage MicroSD
Bluetooth 2.1
MP3, WMA, AAC

Stereo Radio
To summarise, this is a very good phone with an intuitive interface guided by a nice touchscreen. The fixed focus camera is disappointing but adequate. The only real downside is the relatively slow internet access.
Still a good buy though and I would expect most people would be happy with the general performance.
[Update]
Well since this has been out a good while now we should address some of the faults with this particular handset:
Freezing, restarting, turning off and not charging properly. That's quite a few problems for one handset. Freezing seems to be the biggest nightmare because if you don't notice it you could end up missing a lot of calls or texts.
Problems holding power is common to most phones as people tend to over charge them. It is usually best to fully discharge the battery before recharging for the first few times of use. The manufacturer will advise this in the manual too but this is also a good cover to avoid warranty issues which may arise.
The majority of glitches on the phone are solvable with updates to the firmware. Interestingly enough though I couldn't find a supported update on the official LG site. Strange as it is still a fairly recent model.

This is still a good phone and can be bought fairly cheaply. Sometimes though you may just stumble on a handset which is beset with problems, it just happens sometimes.

The phone is free on most tariffs and high street stores offer it as pas as you go from around £80. Carphone Warehouse currently has them for under £50 when bought with a £20 top up.
