Advantages: 3mp camera at 230 USD along with robust touch screen, 8 GB expandable memory slot, speedy processor
Disadvantages: doesn't have flash, cannot play video files other than mp4, large video hangs in between
I am a big fan of LG the day they launched dynamite series. Still I required more from LG. And guess what they launched LG KP 500 popularly called as "The LG Cookie". This phone has also left me wondering about LG's other development in upcoming models.
The dimensions of this cell phone are very nice to fit in any of your pocket. But behold these thin dimensions do not take away the robustness of the cell phone. The touch screen is not very sensitive to breakages and scratches. The mobile pack comes with 1+1 scratch proof screen guards which last long even for rough usage. The touch screen is also meant to be operated through fingers rather than using stylus. Cookie has motion sensors to detect the position of screen and this function is very well integrated with the games. However this function is not active on installed games. It is available only for inbuilt games.
The menu can be customized through finger touch - Drag n Drop feature which amazed me totally. As this function is not available even in my HTC windows pocket pc! The user friendly calling mode is also very nice. You can customize the wallpaper with widgets according to your choice.
The 3 MP camera gives nice pic shots in day time. But the quality suffers when it is night or evening time. The phone also lacks the flash function. Obviously I wish to have a flash with a 3 MP camera! There are a lot of inbuilt functions such as slide show with background music and photo editor
The lithium Ion battery was much discussed before the launch but as usual LG suffered to give good battery backup. My experience with LG KP 500 says the battery life is only 2 and half hours when you watch video or play game.
Coming to the audio and video function, the audio speakers are very good in performance. Performance of ear phones is satisfactory but not very good. You cannot expect Dolby effects. The video playback is decent on a 240X400 wide screen. But still the old LG problem comes into picture - You can only play mp4 files. When you play big files you may face a problem of hanging videos. The sound disappears in between and you have to rewind to get sound back. I wish I could have got other playback options of formats like AVI, DIVx etc for a high end phone like cookie. But it doesn't!
Coming to ease of usage-The inbuilt functions can be very well used with current navigational features but when you install java or other software/games the navigation suffers a lot. I was not able to play games properly. There is no supportive key on phone (5 key is required for most games to start/continue). You have to do all these functions through a round scroll key on touch screen. That is so weird and I stopped playing games on cookie!
Overall an average rated phone not for someone who like to install and play games or operate java software. But it is a good multimedia phone as far as audio/video (short ones only) is considered!!
Summary: A good robust touch screen multimedia phone at 230 USD
