Disadvantages: No slot for stylus, Slowish touch screen, plastic feel
I've had the LG KC910i Renoir for just over 10 months now on an 18 month contract with Orange...in this review i'll try and give an honest opinion on how each of the phone's main features performs and compare it with it's main rival, the iPhone
I was initially drawn to this phone because of its looks, it's sleek and is a good alternative to the iPhone in the looks department. It must be said though that this phone has a more plastic feel than the iPhone, the casing of which is predominantly made of glass.
The 8 mega pixel takes great photos in good lighting conditions, and is certainly the best mobile phone camera I've ever used. You still get decent enough pics at night, but struggles slightly with moving targets (no surprise there though - no camera phone I know of has image stabilisation!) Video quality is also decent...
The touch screen on this phone is adequate, but is slower than respond to than others on the market (think iPhone). On this topic the phone comes with a stylus but not slot to fit it into - you're given what is essentially a piece of thread to tie to the phone which detracts from the decent look of the phone. I don't use the thread therefore and as a consequence I misplace my stylus about twice a week. The full length touch screen QWERTY keyboard which you use for texts is very good, and speeds up texting greatly.
The phone comes with an 8GB Micro SD cards, more than enough space to hold many pics, mp3 and any other files you may wish to hold. I believe you can also insert larger cards without any trouble.
The music player is easy enough to use, but annoyingly only allows you to list your mp3s alphabetically....
To be honest I have a Blackberry from work which I use to browse the internet, so can't really comment here.
A fully charged battery gives me about 3 days of use if I only use it for texts and calls. This is much better than the iPhone (many of my friends who have iPhones need to charge them daily.
One final small but great feature, you can play DIVX files with no conversions required - and the iPhone does not have this feature!
A good but not great phone, it's unlikely to make any serious dent in sales of the iPhone (esp with the apps you can get with an iPhone). It has some nice features though and is a decent alternative to other phones on the market if you simply wish for a nice touch screen phone with a good camera....
Summary: Good but not great phone, has some good features...
