Advantages: 5 megapixel camera
Disadvantages: Slow touch screen, music player is a bodge job, major battery problems!
The LG Viewty (KU990) is a touch screen mobile phone that has packed a lot of features into it ranging from a 5 megapixel camera phone to touch screen games.
The touch screen and the massive 5 megapixel camera are obviously the big features that people will be attracted to the phone for and that is why I got the phone as I wanted a good camera phone that had a touch screen. The screen does also have vibration to where you touch on the screen which felt a like the next best thing to pushing a real button and was a lot more satisfying than touching with no vibration as it didn't really feel as if you have selected the right option on the screen. Another thing I didn't like about the touch screen was the fact that it didn't seem like my touches were registering instantly as there was a slight delay and it would take a bit of time to open say a folder or go to the messaging menu so that was a big downside.
The 5 megapixel camera was a big attraction for me as it was a vast improvement on the 2 megapixel camera I had on the W800i and it was certainly packed with lots of features that I didn't use much as most of the options were on auto as all I wanted to do was point and take or point and record. The way you choose the camera mode from picture to video was a small sliding selector on the right hand side of the phone where the 'take picture/focus/record' and lock button were.
The phone included a lot of the usual features you would find in a modern phone but some of these just seemed to be a quick bodge job of adding them in such as the music player as I found it to be quite bad as you're only limited to 100 songs per playlist and when I went to open my playlist of 100 songs every time it would take up to about 2 minutes for it to load and open to start playing songs which is just ridiculous (I guess the only reason for this was because my mp3's were on external memory but that didn't stop my w800i walkman function from loading a playlist of over a hundred songs practically instantly, there's absolutely no reason for it to take that long)
Other than those queries the phone is fine including the messaging and calling functions... well the keypad while texting can be chosen from a standard phone keypad configuration to a landscape keyboard to handwriting which I never used. The keyboards letters were a bit too small for me as the phone always ended up in putting a wrong letter (probably because my fingers were quite big) and sometimes on the normal keypad setting some letters wouldn't register and it was getting tedious to notice I've written a paragraph with mistakes near the top.
Overall this isn't a very good touch screen phone and there are defiantly far better phones out there with better features as well now.
Oh and one more thing is the battery after a year has gone completely flat and a full charge will only last at least an hour without doing power consuming tasks such as receiving a text would turn it off. I did buy a new battery but it just does the exact same and only lasts a couple of hours and is impossible to take pictures for a prolonged time otherwise the battery will go dead. This is happened to a lot of people I know who have got the phone so this is a major criticism that needs to be addressed by LG.
