The Target Audience
People who want a basic phone to call and text on and not have to carry around a massive bulky phone in their pocket at work or similar places. Could perhaps be best suited for a first time user of a mobile phone or children to use as they are growing up.
Discontinued Now but should be able to find them on eBay for under £10
Is the product for you?
If you are after a phone which does the basics such as ringing and texting, a little web browsing when desperate and plays little games when you need them, without carrying around an old brick of a phone then this is the perfect phone for you as it is very user friendly and very light in your pocket or hand. If you need to take a few photos then it does have a very basic camera on board too.
The product in one
I have had many phones over the years, this been just another phone I had yet I remember it very well and in actual fact have just dug it up out of its box in the loft. When un-boxing the phone you will see that it actually looks pretty stylish, it's a solid grey/silver colour with nice big keys and a fairly large screen. It is 105 x 44 x 18mm which means it is a pretty small easy phone and as added bonus it weighs a lot less than the majority of the phones you get today been only 87g.
The phone itself runs on the 2g network which you would expect from a basic phone especially considering its age and it uses GSM 900/1800. Everything about this phone is entry level, the screen is a TFT type using 65K colours and its size is 128 x 160 pixels. You have the option to use your own photos or downloadable wallpapers to use as the main screen as the phone but there is a few pre-installed to choose from if need be.
There is no memory card slot on this phone and it only has 1.5mb of internal storage which by today's standards is extremely low. It is able to store up to 200 contacts which aren't that useful if you're a business man as you may need a lot more, then again you will usually have more than one phone, and for those busy people you are only able to store up to 10 missed call, dialled calls and received calls at a time.
There's only one primary camera on board which is actually good for a basic phone usually they will come without a camera, this is located on the back of the phone and is a VGA camera with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. There's nothing special about this camera at all, but it is useful if you have no other way of taking photos and does stand as a basic camera to use.
This phone supports polyphonic ring tones or vibration so there's nothing fancy here even if you wanted. You can download more though and there is a link supplied in the folder for where they are located, if you click on it you will be redirected to a new page which I found to be a nightmare as it was so slow and would just eat all of your data.
The battery is pretty powerful on this phone in my opinion; you can get 250 hours out of it on standby and up to 2 hours and 30 minutes out of it when talking. It is just a standard battery - LION 950mAh
Looking at the phone structurally it is actually very sturdy. I must have dropped this phone like a 1000 times when I used to use it and yet it stills works as if it's brand new out of the box
This phone does also support very basic games which I have never actually got round to testing them out but they are nothing worth bragging about and are only there for when the user of the phone is travelling on a long distance and needs something to stimulate their brain. In this phones day the games would of actually been pretty impressive and a good addition to this mobile phone, something which would be desirable for many mobile phone users, this is the same for the colour screen and the VGA camera that is installed on the mobile phone.
How does it compare to other Products?
Compared to other products in its price range then it is just on par with them as it doesn't have any special features it literally is just a basic phone for basic use, which is what it does well at.
Does the Product Achieve its Purpose?
It achieves its purpose in providing a cheap phone which meets all the basic requirements of a mobile phone perfect for all levels of mobile phone users.
Breaking it down
* 2G Network - GSM 900/1800
* VGA Camera 640 x 480
* 1.3mb of internal Storage
* TFT 65K Colour screen
* Store up to 200 contacts
* 10 Missed Calls, 10 Received Calls and 10 Dialled Calls at once
How to Improve
There is no need to improve on this phone as it is just entry level. If I was to change one thing I would make it so that the phone could support MP3 music files so that you could have much better ringtones instead of the silly polyphonic or monophonic ringtones and actually have something that sounds decent.
