Advantages: Bestselling Cult Classic, Better call quality Than Nokia 3310, Reliable and Solid

Disadvantages: Lack of alarm, no new models!

UPDATE 17th JULY 2001

This phone is no longer available new although you may see them second hand certainly in Leeds market. I have had a Nokia 3210/3310 since and although they may be easier to use, NEITHER come close for reliability/call quality/signal strength. Still a classic.

I part exchanged a c12 for £15 and got this for £14.99 brand new from carphone warehouse. It is their best selling prepay phone. It is on new cellnet pay and go which is best prepay package on market, offering calls from just 2p! just ahead of orange. I wanted to get one of these for some time as it is 2 years old and will not be in production for too much longer. This fone is £79.99 on orange in some web shops. Not widely available although Morrisons are selling them for £29.99 on Orange which is excellent value. Only other place you will find it is Carphone warehouse and I have just noticed some black ones in Tandy. The Orange version is Blue. The phone also came free with an official Motorola leather Holster which looks good. This phone has a classic design and is very solid and chunky. but feels compact in my hand and easy to use. This phone really holds onto a weak signal very well indeed - I have had no dropped calls - and the Lithium battery(1000 mah)is excellent. I always get at least 100 hours standby and upto 120 so far -Motorola phones are VERY reliable. I cannot understand when mags complain about the personality menu as the quick access menu makes it simple and quick to use. The Keypad is chunky and rubberised, very nice to use. This phone is a little bigger and heavier than the new breed of phones which get ever smaller+lighter but after using my philips genie which is very small and light at 99 grams, this feels much more the part. Vibration alert works very well and ringtones are easily loud enough in the busy city centre of Leeds. Call quality and earpiece volume are also excellent and better than a Nokia. Shame about lack of alarm and t9 tex
t but it is 2 years since release. I am surprised at motorolas lack of an update/follow up for such a stylish and ruggedly designed phone. They should have made new wap version with alarm/diary and T9 instead of producing the abominations which are the t2288 and v2288 -Maybe the "Timeport" is the update? This a classic cult phone produced by a company renowned for reliability. GET ONE WHILE YOU CAN!!!!
