Advantages: Impressive screen

Disadvantages: Poor camera quality + battery life

I've had this phone for the past year and thankfully i have now just upgraded to a Sony Ericsson K608i. I can't help but feel i was forced in to having this phone from the nice people at phones4u... as it was the 'best' phone available on the 3 network.

My first reaction to this phone was positive. I was aware that the new 3g phones were larger than normal so i wasn't put off by the size + weight (Size: 114 x 52 x 23 mm; Weight: 140g). The screen provides a crystal clear image and nice vibrant colours. The screen resolution is 240 x 320 pixels which was fairly impressive when it was first released (end of 2004 if i remember correctly). The sound quality is fairly good and to top it off it has a 1.2 megapixel camera.

Now don't get my wrong the phone does look good but i was left feeling unimpressed after a few weeks. I expected the camera to provide semi decent pictures but they always turn out grainy; videos turn out the same. One annoying design feature are the shortcut buttons on the side of the phone such as volume up/down; voice call and video call. When holding the phone you may find yourself nudging one of these keys by accident or worse still they can be pressed very easily when the phone is in your pocket/bag.
The battery life seemed fairly good when i first got this considering how much juice the screen must use up but after a few months i found that the battery drained away far too quickly for my liking. Standby time is meant to be up to 150 hours but i found myself charging this once a day.

Navigation around the menus is fairly easy but the phone did not seem overly responsive to commands. The 'analogue stick' in the middle of the buttons is a nice addition as this helps to improve movement.

Overall the phone was fairly competitive when it was first released but now it looks a little dated and there are many better handsets available. In my opinion this has had its day but some may still find it unique and fun to own.
