Advantages: Vouchers don't expire, no service charge, very cost effective
Disadvantages: Battery runs low quickly
I have wanted to purchase a mobile phone for quite a while, but wanted to wait until I could get really cheap. Then I spotted a poster at work advertising a Motorola M3788 on the Orange network for £24.99 including £5.00 worth of free calls. I thought that this would be ideal so purchased it. It is quite a basic phone but is ideal for what I want to use it for i.e. emergencies and occasional text messaging. It has 11 ring tones, nothing fancy like some of the phones you can now buy that play theme tunes. I found the text messaging facility very easy to use, and it costs 10p per message which works out a lot cheaper than making a phone call during peak hours which is 35p per minute. I have also discovered that on Dooyoo, you can text message your friends free! Great idea Dooyoo, I will definitely be using this service!! I have had the phone for about a month and have only used £3.00 on it. The £5.00 worth of calls that I originally got with the phone will expire at the end of the week, so I will have to top it up. After that my vouchers do not expire and there is no service charge either. Hopefully £10.00 should last me for a 3 - 4 months. The only thing that has bothered me about this phone is that the battery runs low quite quickly. Most of the time I have it switched off in the house, unless I am expecting a call, and I leave it on when I go out and about. I don't know know whether this is the same with most phones, or it is just this model. I would definitely recommend this mobile to someone who wants a phone for emergencies, and doesn't want anything fancy.

- 06/07/01 You're op is good and I found it useful, but I think there should be information on what features are available. You found the battery life poor? I guess it differs between different users of the motorola m3788. I find my battery life very good. Perhaps you need a new battery or something, it shouldn't run down so quickly. |

- 26/09/00 Purchase a spare battery from www.thefonezone.co.uk, and always have one charged in your bag. |
