The Motorola Z8 is a neat designed and sleek looking futuristic device!
I originally was convinced to buy this phone because of its looks and features that no other Motorola has had before. For starters the phone curves as the sliding mechanism is opened, which gives it a really funky look!
The Z8 is also a media player; a copy of The Bourne Identity comes with the phone on a Micro SD card and looks fantastic on the 2 inch, 16 million colours TFT screen.
The phone has a 2.0-mega-pixel camera with a maximum resolution of 1600x1200 pixels and 8x zoom and another camera on the front to record yourself for video calls. The only sad thing about the camera is that it supposedly has a flash, but unfortunately when you take a picture, the so-called "flash" is actually LED's bright lights and not an official digital camera flash like the Sony Ericsson K800i.
Pictures come out very clear & great quality if taken during the day when it's light out, however nighttime photos lose their quality.
Other features of the phone are great where as the audio playback supports: MP3, AAC/AAC+/AAC+E, AMR-NB, 3.6 mbps high quality mobile broadband, Bluetooth features to connect to other mobiles, PDA's, printers, headsets and laptops.
Z8 is a nice slim size of 109 mm tall by 50 mm wide and 15.4 mm deep.
The internal memory consists of 90 MB and external Micro SD slot which can take up to an extra 4 GB.
The battery life is quoted to have 5 hours talk time and 16 days standby time. My experience leads me to believe from a full and complete charge, you roughly get 3 hours talk time and 2 - 3 days standby time, which is very disappointing.
I have had my Z8 for nearly a year now, and as much of a nice phone it is, I seem to have more and more problems as the months go by:
It runs very slowly, takes about 5 seconds for the keypad to unlock from when you slide it open, camera takes a while to open and flick between pictures and video. Another problem I have had is that after I finish a call, the phone restarts itself, which becomes very frustrating.
Summary: nice phone with good features but released too early
