Advantages: Easy to navigate, attractive
Disadvantages: Camera quality is poor
When the Motorola Pebl first became available I was a little disappointed to find that it was not available on my current network. I subsequently settled for a Nokia 7373. My Nokia was a faithful companion until the day my 11 month old son used it as a teething aid and promptly shattered off all off the buttons.
It was when browsing for a suitable replacement that I stumbled upon an Ebay supplier offering the Motorola Pebl. This mobile phone was an import from China and available for use on all networks. It cost me exactly £44.99 with postage and packaging costs and it was delivered in just over one week. It came with a set of headphones and two pairs of headphone covers, a charger with plug adaptor, an in-car charger, a screen protector and a rather snazzy leather case with a magnetic flap to open and close it. I did not receive an instruction manual. Of course there are a few complications when buying a mobile phone from another country and it took a while to discover just how to change all of the text settings from Chinese into English.
The Motorola Pebl is a very attractive mobile phone. It is designed to resemble a smooth pebble, hence the name Pebl, and fits just nicely into the palm of your hand. The size is 86.5 x 49 x 20mm and the weight is 110g. There a various colour options available; black, blue, orange, pink, red and green. I chose the rather nice shade of green. The hinge is silver chrome effect, as is the number pad inside with the area around the screen being jet black. The outside has a very soft, almost velvety feel to it.
This is a flip phone and can be opened with a simple flip or by placing it in your hand and pulling the front cover down slightly with your thumb. However this method causes the phone to flick open rather quickly - not smoothly as the specifications state - and it may inadvertently slip from your hand.
Other features of this phone include:
Integrated VGA digital camera
MPEG4 video capture
Picture caller ID
Bluetooth
WAP 2.0 and GPRS Class 10 Internet access
External monochrome display
Speaker independent voice dial
1000 entry phonebook
The Motorola Pebl is so simple to navigate. Simply flip it open and press the centre navigation button and you are taken to an easy-to-use screen with nine icons. The icons will lead you to the main categories; phonebook, recent calls, messages, tools, games and applications, web access, multimedia, Bluetooth link and settings, and subcategories therein. There are options to personalise your phone with a selection of ring tones and colour schemes. The only drawback with this phone is that the camera has a relatively low picture quality, however its good points outweigh this, it is a mobile phone after all and not a camera.
I would recommend this model to anyone looking for an attractive yet uncomplicated mobile phone.
