Advantages: Sleek and slim and good recption

Disadvantages: none so far

My old mobile had seen better days so I decided to take the plunge and treat myself to a new one. Deciding and choosing a new mobile is a nightmare unless you know exactly what you are looking for, which I didn't well not EXACTLY.

I had browsed here and there and was doing my weekly shop at ASDA where I chanced upon a special offer which I think you might agree is pretty good.

The offer was simply this, buy a Motorola L6 for £69.97, get a free bluetooth headset for the car or walking about if you want to look like a total wally. Pretty good so far I thought, then I read further, £5 of airtime preloaded onto the phone with an additional £10 voucher inside the box. So £15 of airtime a new phone and a new funky headset.

Inside the quite large box I discovered all the items named above plus a charger which connects to the phone via the mini USB port. Also in the box were the manual and a quick set up booklet.

Within minutes I was up and running and in the process of learning my new phone. It has the normal features of organiser calculator and such in the applications section of the easy to use menu system. The menu system seems to be a bit more logical than some mobiles I have had, so it did not take long to navigate through the extensive features.

The phone also has a 1.3 mega pixel camera which takes decent photos and short videos with sound. The screen is quite large so viewing the pictures and video is not too hard on the old eyes. Any media you capture can be easily sent via multimedia messaging or cheaper by bluetooth connection with a compatible phone. Technology has come forward so much and I am still amazed at some of the things small devices such as mobiles can do.

The keypad has a very pleasant blue lighting effect and looks pretty good as in fact does the phone in general, being a nice matt grey/silver colour with added chrome type extras to make it look cool.

Connection between the phone and the free headset took me a few minutes to figure out since as per usual I did not read the instructions and just barged in. The reception between the two bluetooth devices is good and clear especially whilst driving where it is obviously more important.

Adding contacts and alarms is simplicity itself as is most of the operational part of the phone due to the as I said good menu system. The phone is capable of going on the net but as of yet I find this feature a bit expensive unless there is a great urgency for the info required.

The phone comes connected to the Virgin Mobile network and I find their rates pretty much comparable with others with a few benefits and a few pitfalls. Overall this is a neat looking device which does all I have asked with ease. The internal; 10 meg memory means that you can sore many pics a a fair amount of MP3's to use as your ringtones. It does play MP3's too but not as a physical mp3 player i.e. with total control. You create a play list and play it thats it. But as I said you can sore a fair few numbers to listen to on the bus to work. Unfortunately there is no provision for headphones so your fellow travellers will be listening to the tunes too.

It is a good functional and looking phone and I think it is very good value for money especially with the free £15 airtime. The only drawback is that whilst using bluetooth to get stuff from your computer for which you need a bluetooth dongle (£9.99 at Maplins) it does drain the battery quite quickly; otherwise the battery is lasting about 3 days before requiring charged.

Summary: A smart practicle phone
