Advantages: It works in the U.S.

Disadvantages: Horrible to use, and big.

We went to get phones that we could use in Europe and the U.S, and needed wireless PC connectivity. The L7089 was the only one that could do this at the time.

For use abroad, the phones have been great, signal quality has been good, and audio has been pretty flawless.

However, living with these phones on a daily basis has proved to be irritating, as the menu systems are pretty archaic...

Having used Nokia phones for a long time, neither of us took to Motorola's weird navigation menus, and simple things such as reading SMS messages is incredibly cumbersome.

It'd be hard to recommend this phone to anyone who doesn't travel a lot - and as soon as Nokia produce a phone with equivalent features, we'll be ditching the Motorolas.

Also, anyone who's thinking of travelling to Japan should forget about using a triband phone, as Japan's cellphone systems are not supported by GSM.
