Advantages: Small

Disadvantages: Limited Features, Might break

I bought a Motorola V50 about...hmmm...a year ago? Here's what it's all about:

**~~WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?~~**

This is one of the smallest phones around at the moment and you'll usually find it in silver. It's very compact but some people say that the aerial looks a bit on the chunky side. I like it - it's a good looking phone compared to other phones around which can be a bit bulky, square and brick-like! The inside has a surprisingly big screen and buttons for such a dinky phone. I can't really see anything wrong with how this phone looks. If you're gonna get it, get it in silver because the blue isn't as good! By the way, this phone is GREAT because it doesn't scratch easily! Good for me because I always drop it or it gets chucked around in my bag and stuff. Considering the way I treat my poor little phone, it's lasted pretty damn well!

**~~WHAT FEATURES DOES IT HAVE?~~**

The features aren't great compared to Nokia and other phone manufacturers. I'll tell you what it does have by quickly taking you through the menu...

~~Access Internet~~

I've never used this function because I never got it set up with Vodafone. Anyway, I'd only use it too much and get a massive phone bill!

~~Phone Book~~

VOICE DIALLING:
You can record some names onto your phone so instead of flicking through your phone book to find a number, you just press a button, say their name into the phone and it automatically phones them! This function is available on most phones nowadays so it's nothing special. I don't use it much either, it's easier just to use the quick dial where you hold down a number to call some (you have to remember who you put in each quick dial though!)

PERSONAL NUMBERS:
This is where you add entries to your phone book or find old entries by searching by name or location. The phone can remember 100 numbers an
d you can add 100 more numbers on to your sim card too.

LAST TEN CALLS:
This gives you the option to see your last ten answered calls, missed calls or made calls. You can also erase all the numbers stored.

ONE TOUCH DIAL SELECTION:
You can choose to have your quick dial from your sim card or from your phone memory.

~~Alarm Clock~~

You can set up to five alarms to go off daily, weekly or just once. Pretty self-explanatory, don't you think?!

~~Call Related Features~~

SHOW BATTERY METER:

RESTRICT MY PHONE NUMBER:
This is where you can choose to phone someone without your number coming up. I guess it's useful if you feel like pranking someone.

CALL DIVERTING:
You can choose to divert your calls to a different number. Trust me, don't bother with this - it's more hassle than it's worth!

TALK AND FAX:
Never used it, just thought I'd let you know the functions there! ;)

CALL WAITING:

CALL BARRING:

KEY ANSWER ONLY:
Instead of the phone automatically answering when you flip open the cover, you can choose to press 'OK' before you answer. This way you can choose not to answer a call if you know who it's from!

~~Messages~~

CALL VOICEMAIL:

RECEIVED MESSAGES:
Text messages you've received.

OUTGOING MESSAGES:
Your outbox

MESSAGE EDITIOR:
Where you write your message.

VOICENOTES:
You can record up to three minutes of conversation by pressing a button on the side of the phone. This is where you play them back.

~~Phone Setup~~

ADJUST RING VOLUME:

RING OR VIBRATE:
(Or you can choose to have both)

SET RINGER TONE:
There aren't loads. The musical ones are really crap...either get on from the net or just have it go 'ring ring'!

SET ALARM RINGER:
Th
is is just a simple on/off choice.

SET MESSAGE ALERT TONE:
You have the same choice of ringers as for your tone.

EDIT MUSIC TONE:
If you feel like making up a song...It's quite easy to use...once you've got the hang of it.

QUICK ACCESS SETUP:
If you want to get to a part of the menu more quickly (like received messages) you can set this up and your quick access so you only have to press two buttons to get there. You can do this for 9 functions.

PHONE LOCK:
Lock your phone so no else can look into it!

ADJUST CONTRAST:

REQUIRE SIM PIN:
When you first switch on your phone - like a password.

SHOW TIME AND DATE:

SET TIME AND DATE:

SET TIME FORMAT:
12hr/24hr

LANGUAGE SELECTION:
Never let your mates get at it and change the language! Mine got changed to Spanish once. Took ages to get it back to normal!

ENTRY METHOD SELCTION:
When typing tetxt message, you can choose normal entry or predictive text.

SELECT KEYPAD TONES:

~~Network Selection~~

Don't mess with this unless you're abroad!

~~Call Meters~~

SHOW CALL TIMERS
See how long you've spent frazzling your brain!

SET AUIDIBLE CALL TIMERS:
Tell you when you've been on the phone for X amount of time

SET IN-CALL DISPLAY:
If halfway through a conversation you feel like checking how long you've been gossiping, you can have a quick peek!

LIFETIME TIMER:

~~Games~~

TOWERS OF HANOI:

BACCARET:
Card game

BRICKS:

**~~HOW EASY IS IT TO NAVIGATE AROUND THE PHONE?~~**
It's easy once you get used to it. If you're used to a Nokia or Siemens phone, suing a V50 might not make much sense when you first use it! It's not difficult though. If my nan can use it (she just bought her own having adored mine!) th
en anyone can!!

**~~HOW LONG DOES THE BATTERY LAST?~~**
Quite a while. If you use it every now and again, it will last a few days. If you do a lot of texting and a lot of calling then you might gave to recharge it every other day. Recharging takes about an hour. You can buy an in-car charger to plug into your cigarette light if you're on the go!

**~~HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?~~**
You won't pay much more than £150 for this on contract. How much you pay depends on the contract you get. As far as I know, you can't get this phone on pay-as-you go...yet!

**~~IS IT A GOOD PHONE?~~**
Yes and no. I've been pleased with it but I've also had a couple of problems with the screen on mine (I guess because it's a flip phone) but it's been repaired OK. There aren't loads of fun features like there are on other phones. You can add your own logo to it or change the cover. There aren't as many ringtones available for Motorola phones either. The main thing about this phone is the size. If that's really important to you, you might want to buy the new Samsung with the dual display or even look into the new Motorola one (you can have it with diamonds in - WOW!).

Nice down to earth review. I've got the option at this time to get a v50, but I'm still undecided.

Hi! I recognise the name from Ciao! I have just got myself a new phone but I went for a trusty Nokia as I had a Motorola before and had a few problems with it. This sounds quite a cute little phone though!
