Ok so this is my phone not some stylish rav or raz slim line bright pink funky model but my trusty Motorola V980 flip top in sliver and blue.
Where I got the phone:
Well I used to be on a monthly contract with Vodaphone which was costing me £14.95 for rental then 200 free off peak minutes so my phone bills varied from about £55 to £300.00 depending on whether I was traveling or not . So decided to change my contract once my year was up.
Well I called Vodaphone and they informed me of the funky new phone offer they had if I signed up for another year so blinded by a new phone offer I went ahead.
It is now a pay as you go phone as I decided to cancel my monthly contract.
Now got my new phone which cost me nothing and was very pleased, it had all these great functions that my old Motorola did not have so decided to put the manual aside and work it out myself.
So here are the functions:
The thing I just loved about this phone at first was the wee screen on outside of the phone you can set it to tell you date and time and you can have your screen picture on this as well. So every time I look at the phone I can see my wee nephew's cheeky grin smiling at me. This also shows when you have a call it will tell you who is calling so you do not have to answer it if you don't want to.
Now opening the phone it is not the lightest of phones but then again you are not afraid of breaking this one either it's one of the sturdier flip phones. It opens easily to let you see your fairly large screen inside and a camera lens so that you can take pictures of yourself .
The keypad has a central menu circle and the usual buttons which are a decent size so you don't press two buttons at one time.
The menu has lots of functions when you press this lots of icons come up on the screen very like a computer screen.
The Icons on the menu are:
Games - I have currently monopoly and who wants to be a millionare I downloaded these as it came with crappy football game installed. The games are Java so a very good game play quality and great sound.
Media-this includes all your tones /videos/pictures and access to make new videos and take pictures.
Video-another link for you to select to create a new video.
Camera-and another link so you can take pictures.
Settings-for changing your profiles / time zones / network and all the other stuff I generally don't use.
Contacts-well this is your list of phone numbers addresses and any other info you care to put in it will take birthdays and pictures of the people in your phonebook.
Organizer-well this one has your calendar and notes link also calculator and alarm which I found very handy when I was traveling you can set the alarm to go off up to 4 times to make sure you definitely wake up.
Now very important function is tri-band GSM/GPRS this allows you to use your phone abroad in places like the states. Which for me is handy as I travel a lot there and it was so easy when I got to the states it automatically found the American network for me and it was a very good quality too. But do be careful as it is very expensive it cot me 90p to call people and cost them 40p to call me.
Now another great function this phone has is video conferencing some people may find this very handy have not used this function myself .
The camera: Now this is a good quality camera for a phone it actually has two cameras in it this phone one on the front for taking pictures of other people or whatever you care to snap and one inside for taking pictures of yourself. It has a zoom function and an auto time capture. Also you have a flash which can be turned on or off. I use the camera a lot it's handy for work I just take all the pictures I need then upload them via the USB cable to my PC. There is also a button on the side of the phone for quick use of the camera.
The video camera: now this is fun you can take up to 3 mins worth of video and the quality is faily good and the sound quality is acceptable. I keep a video of my wee nephew on my phone just to cheer me up when I'm feeling sad.
This phone has 3G technology which allows you to watch films from your phone I have used this by downloading an advert from the internet but it uses up your battery and it is expensive to download the films.
Now the power in this phone is supposed to be 120 - 145 hrs on standby now as time goes on you get much less my phone whether used or unused needs charged almost every second day. It's a major pain thinking of getting a spare battery.
The sound quality on this phone is actually very good and as far as I can tell the microphone is ok as have had no complaints while on a call. If you feel it's a bit quiet you can use the volume button during a call to make it louder.
Overal my impression of this phone is it does all I need it to do and more It is good quality and has an excellent reception great sound quality and never seems to let me down.
I give it 9 out of 10 I take away a point for the battery.
