Advantages: Reliable, sleek phone design, easy to use, good price

Disadvantages: Basic with limited features, poor camera quality

I bought this phone for my mum for her birthday about 6 months ago and she loves it. She needed something that was straightforward but that had all the basics for a good phone and at £25 it's a bargain.

... The Phone ...

The Motorola W377 is a sturdy yet slim flip phone, available in different shades of grey, or pink if you like your girly gadgets. It measures Height: 99, width: 45, Depth: 18.6mm. It looks sleek and quite stylish even though it's not the lightest phone out there on the market (95g). There's a concealed connector to the one side for headphones, one on the other for USB and charging connectivity and two arrow buttons to change the ring volume. On the front is a narrow strip which acts as a mirror but if the phone rings or you get a message, the symbols become visible. It's a good design if you're worried about calling someone or connecting to the internet accidentally when you're mobile's in your bag as the main keys are revealed when you unflip the phone. The main screen is slightly smaller than most flip/slide phones out at the moment, but it's still clear and easy to read. The keypad is also clear and the buttons are flat and easy to use.

... Specs ...

As I've said, it's a fairly basic phone, but for the price you still get some good features, including:

Tri-band
VGA Camera (4 x zoom)
FM Radio
Bluetooth
Games
USB
General organiser tools
8Mb internal memory
WAP compatible
492 Minutes talktime / 295 hours standby

... Usability ...

If my mother can operate this phone, anyone can! The main screen is straightforward with the centre button taking you to the main menu. From there you can access your bits and pieces, such as messages/address book/settings/media. Texting is simple as is making a call as there's not too many extras to get in the way and complicate things. You can personalise aspects of the mobile but there isn't much choice when it comes to doing this. The camera is easy to use but isn't great quality. You can take a few snaps but it wont be picture perfect with a high resolution so I'd stick to your digi cam for important pictures.

... Overall ...

For £25 on pay as you go it's a bargain if you're looking for something on a budget that does the basics. It's been very reliable so far and my mum hasn't made any complaints about it. I'll give this a 4 star because with the prices of other mobiles falling also, this one does lack 'oomph'. It's nothing special, features and menu design are limited and basic, but it works & it's reliable which is equally important.

Summary: My mum approves & hasn't made any complaints so it must be okay!
