Advantages: Fantastic battery life
Disadvantages: So many features you might never remember how to use them all!
I've had my NEC db2000 for well over a year now. Fed up with finding that my last phone had died on me *just* when I wanted to make that vital call, this phone was chosen chiefly for its' outstanding battery life and quick charge facility. With a standby time of up to *12* days alongside up to 8 hours talk time, this was definitely the phone for me! In addition to its' reliability, it has a quick charge facility, and provided you charge it within a reasonable space of time after the battery warning light first goes on, it will recharge fully in around 1 1/2 hours! For me the above factors alone are enough for me to remain extremely happy about the phone, but in addition it's a good-looking slimline and lightweight piece of equipment, which is all the more impressive if you consider the battery life. If what you're looking for are games or gizmos, the db2000 is unlikely to appeal, although it will talk to you in 17 different languages. It's basically a serious dual band phone with the kind of features needed for business as well as personal use, but without the play value. Since play is the last thing I want from my mobile, this is not a problem to me. Another very useful, but far from run of the mill feature is the silent vibrate facility (!) which allows the phone to remain switched on through meetings or events when a ringing tone would be inappropriate. As far as other features are concerned, all the basics and more are there, go check the NEC website for all the info you could possibly need - http://www.nec.co.uk/main.htm When the battery needs charging, and you've ignored the battery recharge light, far from expiring peacefully, it will beep loudly at you to inform you of its demise...although sometimes this has its uses, it's the most annoying thing possible if you've got it in your bedroom and it reaches its death throes in the middle of the night! Other than
that, the only concern I have about my phone after a year of regular use is that the charging connector looks a bit fragile, and at some point I think part of it is going to snap off, but I may be misjudging it. It's a great little phone, and it was an excellent choice - it's performed even better than I expected.

- 29/08/00 I agree with the writer, and would add that the call timers are very usefull when roaming, indicting incoming and outgoing times on home or alternative networks. |
