Update

Do not get this phone or go to three as they are both as hopleess as each other.

Have had the phone now for 4 months and it is extremely tempramental in terms of signal even during calls when you move your head 3 inches to the left all signal dies. The battery power now lasts approx 2 hours before it dies, thats making two calls. !!!

I am trying as we speak to get out of the contract due to failure to pay compensation for earlier faults (number porting was a mare of epic proportions)

The call centre in india are as obtuse as possible and it will take 45mins to reach anyone in Glasgow, so be prepared for long wait and, of course, no record of your previous call/complaint.

To get somewhere fast and you have an issue send email to executive.concerns@three.co.uk and you may get somewhere faster.

All in all a dreadful experience dogged by incomeptent staff at most levels

Just taken delivery of the 606, courtesy of 3 Mobiles generous offer of free phone and 750mins free talktime for £35..currently on offer to help 3 shift their huge stocks of 3 handsets.

Intial impressions-

Robust feel to the handset, tad heavy compared to my old Nokia 6310. Nice shiny silver exterior on top face, let down slightly by dull blue backpiece.

A flip phone so therefore thicker than most of my old phones, not good from my girlfriends POV as she wants slim-line! Easy enough to flip open, which reveals a relative;y balanced clearly laid out keypad with centre toggle and menu and the famous triangle(accesses 3 network services)

- Huge plus points to NEC/ 3 is that they give you x2 chargers, x2 batteries which is a nice touch..

hink I will ever reall
y use, however I have used the most obvious ones being the video/photo thingy, games and networking stuff.

Video - suprised me as to its quality given the size of phone etc, its not as good as you have seen on the adverts but hey..Have not yet had a video phone call yet (need someone else with one!!) But am sure the idea will either take off or not and then onto the next gimmick. I did download a short film by Aardman productions of Angry Boy which is again pretty good quality for what it is, so impressive so far..not tried sports yet, but reckon you can forget trying to watch golf or snooker..

3 has a link with jongleurs comedy club and they show short sketches from their archive including Dom Joly etc all of which is easy and quick to download. As are ringtunes and wallpaper for the phone.

Usability

Am still finding y way around it at the momnet, adding numbers is a HUGE bore, everytime you finish one you save and you return to the main screen so you have go through the links to add another. Crap. Maybe a quicker way but not found yet. Th emain button for going th
rough menus is the centre toggle which is easy on the thumb and button in the centre gets youinto the chosen app.

Calls

The signal is a few bars stronger that my old O2 phone, calls are clear and standard fare really. The phone sits better in teh cradle of my shoulder and head for no handed calling which is good as old phone ended slipping out most times.

Features

Can link to your PC via USB (supplied) you can transfer pics/videos form phone to PC - handy if you have no digicamera like me.
Bluetooth - whatever that does
Email - get an addreess and away you go
Finder - most handy in London. Tyoe in where you are and where you wanna go and hey presto a wee map and directions, even tells you of restaurants on the way in case you are peckish

No Radio though as I originally thought

Battery life is sapped when in video mode but still give 2 hrs yak time


So far so good, day two and am still playing and working through the sizable manual (never doen that before, but the phones capapbility is extensive so might try and use as much as poss!)
