Advantages: Large screen, Full QWERTY keyboard, 3G phone that supports video calling
Disadvantages: My phone has USIM ERROR, Quite large and bulky
First of all - This is a review of the NEC E808 and NOT the E606 – I had to do this because DooYoo has no review page for the E808. When I first got this handset, the first thing that hit me was the size. For a mobile phone, it’s massive, and more the size of a PDA than a phone. Luckily, this is well justified. The phone sports a large colour screen, and a full QWERTY keyboard which is great for messaging, but strangely doesn’t come with a back light which means that if you’re using the phone at night, you have to tilt the screen down towards the keyboard – a major oversight. The keys are quite small, but are quite easy to press and is far easier for messaging than a standard phone keypad. The screen is very bright and is of a high quality which makes it great for watching video clips, reading messages, and doing video calls. This phone is a flip design, and whilst it’s large when unfolded, it’s not too bad when in your pocket. Due to the phones size you do however have to be prepared for comments such as it being a ‘brick’ or a ‘laptop’! I brush those comments aside however… The Three network is currently the only 3G network and supports video calls which means you can view the person on the other end (providing your in a 3G area that is, and you are calling someone who is also on the Three network.) Video calls are of high-ish quality but do tend to break up slightly. When you’re a Three customer, you also have access to Three’s unique services which allow you to download Premiership football, ITN news, comedy clips, maps and much more. Unfortunately you can’t actually access the internet which does mean it can be rather restrictive, but in my opinion is much better than WAP. The battery life is poor however. Perhaps not suprising because of the phones features, but I usually only get about 12 hours out of it. The menu is quite e
asy to use, but does takes some getting used to. My phone also suffers from the know USIM ERROR. Every 12 hours or so the phone will display this message and is basically like the phone crashing. I am however getting a replacement handset so hopefully the new one won’t have this problem… Overall, this is a nice phone. Big, bulky, but has a large screen and a great keyboard. Three's services are also quite impressive.
