Bluetooth? No. Colour screen? No. WAP? No. Polyphonic ringtones? No.

Just thought I'd get that out of the way first, because if you're looking for a phone that does everything under the sun, including make the tea, this one is not for you.

On the other hand, if you're like me and only use your mobile for calls and text messages the 1100 could be just what you're looking for. It's a nice size, sleek and compact enough to fit easily into your pocket or handbag but without being fiddly. The keypad in particular is very easy to use and great for texting. One snag however is that the power button is recessed, and needs to be pressed quite firmly. This could be a problem if you have long nails. The covers fit well, and do not creak or wiggle, a problem I found with the 3510.

The menu system will be familiar to anyone who has used a Nokia phone before, intuitive and easy to navigate. Sound quality and reception are both very good, even in my house where the signal is quite weak.

One possible drawback is that the 1100 only has room for 50 phone numbers in it's memory. This is not a problem if you use the memory on your sim, but worth being aware of.

Finally, it's tough to beat on price alone. I paid £40 for mine, which is an absolute bargain. Prices do vary across networks, however.
