Advantages: it's easy to use

This is a great phone… if you just want a phone. It has no fancy gizmos, no pictures, and no music. It makes phone calls and sends texts, but that's about it.

To look at, it's a pretty standard Nokia. It can have a variety of coloured covers (including blue, pink, red, green and yellow) but mine is the boring grey and black one.
This phone is pretty small, at only 106mm x 46mm x 20mm, and weighing 86g.

The front of the phone has a small (black and white) screen with the standard phone keys underneath. There is a button with a red dot, to turn the phone on and off, a big "menu" key in the middle, the "cancel" key and the scrolling up and down keys.

The most technically advanced thing about this phone is that it has a flashlight! The easiest way to use this is by pressing and holding down the "C" key, this activates the light and by releasing the key the light is turned off.

The battery charger plugs into the base of the phone. It takes around 3 ½ hours to fully charge the battery. I don't use the phone much, but has lasted me about two weeks before it needs recharging.

THE MENUS
~~ Messages
As you can expect, this is where you can write messages, look in your inbox, and check the drafts of those you haven't yet sent. Predictive text can be turned on or off.

It also has a "chat" feature, which I have to confess I've never used. This lets you have a conversation with others via text message, each message is sent as a separate text but the messages are not saved.

~~ Contacts
The place to find the numbers of all those people you need to call. The phone will store up to 50 entries.
Here you can also add, edit or delete entries and if you are really sad (I confess I am) you can assign a special ring tone to identify when you have received a call from a particular number.

~~ Call register
Gives you lists of your most recent missed calls, received calls or dialled numbers. You can see the time of the call and add or delete it from your contacts list.

~~ Tones
There are 35 ring tones on this phone. None of them are particularly special but with that many there is bound to be one which you can put up with. You can also change the ringing volume, set the message alert tone, the level of the keypad tones, turn the low battery warning on and off and set the phone to vibrate (or not) when it rings.

~~Profiles
Here you can customise the phone tones for different events and environments.

~~Settings
Here you can adjust the different settings on the phone or set them all back to the default settings. You can set the clock and date, set up the call divert to divert your calls to the voice mailbox or another phone number, you can set up automatic redial (up to ten attempts)or assign speed dialling numbers.
You can select the language, set up a welcome note and set up automatic network selection.
You can also set the keypad of your phone to lock automatically after a predetermined length of time (I find this very useful!).

~~Alarm clock
The alarm can be set to sound just once or repeatedly.

~~Reminders
You can save short notes with an alarm which is activated at the set date and time.

~~Games
Snake II, (classic or campaign) and Space Impact

~~Extras
Calculator, stopwatch, countdown timer, composer (you can create your own ring tones), screensaver and flashlight.

At the moment it's £49.95 from the Carphone Warehouse with £10 airtime from T Mobile.
The press on covers in different colours are about £10 from Amazon.

CONCLUSION
This is a great phone if you don't want anything fancy. My last phone was a Sagem and the battery was on its last legs when I saw this in Sainsbury's as a "manager's special" for £15 (and only on T Mobile PAYG) last April. I didn't think I could go wrong with something at that price. In fact I was surprised at how nice it was and how easy to use. I've actually become quite fond of it! Its small size means you can pop it in your pocket if you aren't taking a bag (or if you happen to be a man!) It's pretty sturdy as I have dropped it a couple of times, but no one would know to look at it.
I was lucky that Father Christmas offered to buy me a new phone, so I've stuck with Nokia and got a 6230i. When I've worked out how to use it, I might write a review of that one too…
