A few years back I was heavily into mountain biking - and I do a fair amount of long distance running. It was getting to the stage where I was feeling a little insecure being so far from home with no means of calling for assistance if I got injured - so I decided I needed to start taking a phone out with me. Being into modern phones, my handset at the time was quite expensive and shiney - and I didn't fancy stuffing this in my camelbak, along with my tools, spare inner tubes and so on, so I decided that getting a cheap and cheerful pay-as-you-go phone was the way forward.
The Nokia 1200 fit the bill really nicely - it was a Nokia, a brand I trust, it was a phone - and it cost £20 including £10 of credit on the high street. Cheap as chips - and really quite cheerful. It was definitely a change to go back to a black and white screen, big clicky buttons and so on, having been used to rather more advanced phones, but not necessarily a bad thing - this Nokia, like so many before it...just works. I've saved a couple of numbers in the memory, I've sent a couple of texts, I've made a couple of calls (fair quality). All straightforward, all intuitive, al great. It's got a torch, which isn't too useful to me, but could be useful to others - and it's even got Snake, so if I get bored waiting for my friends, I can sit off my bike and have a quick game.
Over the last couple of years, I've put the 1200 through some abuse - I've thrown it about the place, squeezed it into pockets with screwdrivers and dirt - and it just keeps going. The charge lasts for a couple of days *easy* - so much so that I've hardly ever had to charge the thing (as I leave it off in my bag, anyway)
If you're after a cheap handset to use and abuse, the 1200 is a great choice - it's basic, sure, but basically brilliant.
With so many, all singing, all dancing mobiles on the market today you wouldn't think there was a place for such a simple phone, but I love it!
If you want a cheap, simple and easy to use phone that you can take to work and not worry about scratching or damaging then this is ideal. Alternatively, it's also ideal as a first phone for younger kids to stay in touch.
I had one, but my toddler's highchair fell on it and broke the screen....so I bought another!
It has very few advanced features, mostly all it is good for is calling and texting...but then again, it is just a phone, what more do you need? Oh, and it has a very handy torch function that actually works pretty well. It has standard stuff like alarm, vibrate, calendar, calculator etc.
You won't find a camera, MMS capability, WAP, Java, or anything like that. What you get is a basic phone that is very easy to operate and cheap enough that you won't get upset by a few dents or scratches in it.
It does feel cheap, and very plasticy....but that's because it is cheap and plasticy but it does exactly what is says on the tin.
With every day passing by, the cell phone giants are trying to accommodate more and more features into one small gadget. Only a few years back, we were wowed b nokia's first ever video phone which would record a five seconds video and now its hard to imagine a phone without a camera, not to mention gps and high speed data downloads.
But all these features come at a price, both in terms of money and portability. There are a lot of people among us who consider all these features as luxuries. And then another group who are too rough for all these fancy phones. Thanks to nokia, who has just the right phone for both these groups.
Nokia 1200, its comfortable to hold plastic body appears to be a perfect choice for the clumsy dropping-everything-around type and also for those who's lifestyle is to rough for all those luxury phones. Its light, its very portable and above all, its very affordable. To aid its functionality, it comes with a white LED torch! This is especially useful for people living in third world countries where power outage is very common. This way, the phone is a relief to have as one doesn't have to carry around a torch and add more weight to the pocket.
The phone's monochromic LCD screen makes it very readable in almost every condition of light. And the polyphonic tones are very catchy for sure.
One other thing that makes the phone special is the really nice version of snake-xenia, the game. The snake has gone wavier and now the game has some really nice sound effects.
It was 5.00 a.m. in the morning, I had gotten up from bed, but was still somehow drunk in my sleep, when my previous phone slipped off from my hand and dropped on the tiled floor. This led to the ending of that phone. From then on, I had started looking for a crash resistant phone, till I got to know of Nokia 1200.
Nokia 1200 is a very light phone and it doesn't spoil easily on crash. What will happen at most is that when the phone is old the rubber buttons will come out. This phone doesn't make your pockets heavy and your movement becomes very easy.
As, I live in Africa, another very important feature of this phone is its torch Light. Whenever, I am moving on a street at night and a dark place comes, my hands automatically go to the mobile to put on the Light. The Light feature also allows you to get to the light switch, if you sleep in a dark room and need to get up at night to do something,
N1200 is a very cheap phone. It is a very common phone. This phone is found with most people who have just started using phones and many professionals as well. This phone has all the basic features in it, of some of which, I am not going to mention. It is lacking most multi media functions. In fact, its games are very interesting and I see most of my friends playing them and trying to break new score records.
A very important characteristic of this phone is that, it is very power efficient. I charge my phone once in a week. This really reduced my burden of turning my phone to a charger again and again like a slave.
There are some disadvantages of this phone as well. My N1200 sometimes due to weak phone service providers here in Sierra Leone, doesn't receive full signals and so although I will be able to make calls but when I send messages, they aren't delivered. Another disadvantage of this phone is that the writings on the buttons get erased very quickly. So, it makes it hard to write text messages, as you do not see the alphabets.
Considering the weight of circumstances, the advantages of this phone are greater than its disadvantages and I personally love this phone. You too can make the right decision.
