Advantages: A brilliant budget phone.

Disadvantages: No memory slot. Otherwise smashing.

I think that this is a terrific little budget phone, It is made of Aluminium, including the battery cover, so it's more rugged than it looks. My little Jewel's lovely. So much so that if it kept getting broken or stolen, I would pick my lovely Jewels over and over again!

I have this phone because my trusty old Nokia 6230 gave up on me, this one's like an old friend, like the special bond you get after a few experiences with someone special. Man and machine in perfect harmony, that sort of thing. The shocking thing is, I have only owned this for a matter of days! I'm not the easiest person to please, so me saying this is special, is a great compliment. I am now having a relationship with one of these Jewels in the Nokia crown. I am also a technophobe, but even I have got to know her so well.

This must be one of the easiest phone to operate in my opinion, It's so light you could use this phone as a key ring! These are very cheap at the moment, and apparently Nokias can be unlocked using codes from the internet. I have no experience of this myself, so maybe it is just one of those urban myths?

The list of spec is not that impressive compared with expensive handsets, having said that, I would put my little jewel up against many modern phones. These are not slider phones, to their credit. They are very slim indeed, actually the thickness is less than TEN mm!

The keys are flush, but spaced out nicely, and texting is easy, even with my stubby fat fingers. The TFT screen has 65.000 colours, better than many more expensive phones. It has a VGA camera, which does stills and video, These are fitted with a 4 x zoom lens, better than most phones again.

The back of the handset is a subtle matt black with chrome around the lens, while the front is an amazing jet black gloss, with matt chrome, very chic, and apparently very "This season". I just think it looks brill, (but then I think Tank Tops do too)!

It's compatible with Bluetooth devices of course, especially hands free kits, plus there is a "speaker mode", you just put it into this mode & leave the phone on your seat, or deskdesk. For younger users it has some games, plus it also supports Java. The radio is very clear, but it does need the headphones to be connected, as this acts as the aerial. This phone also hasl MP3 & polyphonic ringtones, WAP etc, so you can surf the net, send e mails etc.

There is an internal supply of memory of 11 Mbs, and this has been criticised in the past as being too little, unfortunately these do not come with a memory slot, so the memory can not be expanded. I am on the Orange, and I am well pleased with the network.

Anther critique I have heard, is the talk time, it has actually 312 hours of standby time, and if you were to talk to some Scatty Blonde, you would be there for SIX HOURS! The address book holds an admirable One Thousand names! I could also say this little jewel weighs only 66 grammes, a lot lighter than most surely?

In practice, the phone is not perfect, it should have a little more memory, or the provision of a slot. The colume tends to stay on maximum and is loud enough - just! The style of the phone cannot be faulted, It looks a Million Dollars. Reception is never a problem unless way out in the sticks. It will slip discreetly into any pocket.

The cost is low, and you will see these on special offer all over. The instructions are brilliant, not just translated techno-babble from Korea. The box is very good, and comes with a mains charger, wired hands free kit, sim card, and top up card. You normally get £10 free credit with these phones too. I also got a bonus One Pound free text credit too!

By the way, these new charger connectors that Nokia now use, are smaller than the old ones, so you will need to think about buying a new car charger, or perhaps just an adaptor.

I recommend this little gem.

Latest - This phone has suffered from software problems, and apparently it is not the only one, be aware that you may have trouble in the future, although I am sure Nokia wil give you a new one like they did me.

Summary: A simple rugged phone, very underestimated.
