Advantages: light and handy, glows in the dark, tri-band
Disadvantages: no IR and bluetooth, expensive, no new features
The Nokia 3100 is one of the latest phones released by Nokia this year. Nokia said that the 3100 is aimed ?to the cool and fashionable pop kids and young urban professional who want to make the ultimate mobile statement?. When I first got hold of the Nokia 3100, I was so impressed that I decided to ?junk? my old but reliable Nokia 8310. I have been using my 8310 for more than a year and it felt like dumping an old friend for a newfound someone, it was like leaving a longtime sweetheart for a beautiful girl I?ve recently met. The 3100 is so light and fits comfortably in my hand, what makes it more attractive is its ability to glow in the dark. I also enjoyed the pre-installed Java games in it like the Snake EX2, Bowling and Beach Rally. And mind you, games in the 3100 can be added or changed by simply downloading new ones via Java Technology. The 3100 is also the first Nokia phone to offer a new kind of Xpress-On gaming cover enhancement, it features electroluminescence special light effect that makes the phone glow in rhythm with ringing tones, games, alarm and other phone functions. I thought I?ve found the phone of my life. As the 3100 and I became closer everyday, I realized that the price that I pay for it is not worth it. I was deceived by its looks that I thought it was the phone for me. I was like a philandering boyfriend who after dumping the love of his life realized that the woman he went with is nothing but all looks but no substance. Yeah I had some fun with it, but what is fun without the functionalities that I need in a phone? For one it has no IR port that I have to key-in numbers instead of just sending them via IR and because it has no IR I cant use it to connect my PDA to the internet and when I surfed the Web I found out that the Glow-in-the-dark cover is not even an original idea of Nokia, it was just copied from Siemens C55 released on October 2002. I wonder why it took for Nokia that long to follow the lead o
f Siemens. Personally I believe this phone is only good as a second or alternative phone but I won?t buy a second phone that is more expensive than my main phone. The bottom line is, if you have loads of cash to burn buy this phone. I found it to be expensive for the basic features it offers. If it?s game that you want, buy a Gameboy Advance SP, you can buy three units with the price of this phone. If it?s the glow in the dark feature you are attracted to try the Siemens C55 at half the price of the 3100.
