Advantages: uhm??
Disadvantages: its embarrassing
I recently lost my Motorola mobile phone and was forced to replace it with a new phone, so that my family could keep in touch with me. I decided, after much consideration(and pressure from my boyfriend to buy a "good" phone , to buy a Nokia 3310 from Ebay. The phone cost £60,and I think they sell new for about £90 so you could say I got a bargain. You access the main menu of the phone by pressing the oval shaped top centre button. The first option is the phone book which allows you to add names, assign tones, set up speed dials and voice tags. Voice tags are your voice recorded onto the phone. When you say the same name again it auto dials the one in your phone book. In my opinion its a waste of time as its easier just to go straight into search. The second category in the main menu is messages. You have an inbox, where new messages are stored and outbox where you can store sent messages, though there is a limit of 10 messages in each. The 3310 also offers picture texts which can only be sent to certain phones and templates for messages like" call me later". The third category is related to messaging and is chat. I've never used it but as far as I can work out,it's so you can have texts chats and see what the last few texts were without having to search the inbox. Call register stores the numbers of the last calls you recieved, made and missed as well as logging call duration. The next section is Tones. This offers a ringtone composer and lots of pre-made ringtones. This section also allow you to decide whether or not your phone should vibrate when it rings and pick a screen saver from a selection. You can also decide the level of ring from silent to really loud. There is a settings section which lets you pick your own welcome note(you see it for all of five seconds, why would you want to personalise it?),and adj
ust technical settings on the phone. Games is yet another pointless section. In the 3310 you get four games;Bantumi,Pairs II,Snakes II and Space Impact. Bantumi is near impossible to figure out but involves beans in pots...don't ask. Pairs is the old matching game and can be played at a variety of levels or against a timer. Snakes is a weird game where you make your "snake" eat things and get longer with crashing into yourself. Unlike the 3210 version you can go through walls or have mazes. Space Impact is actually slightly fun, and this is the one I'll play on bus journeys to my boyfriend's place. You are a rocker which you manoeuvre with the keys and shoot flying objects to gain points. If you get crashed into you lose a life. It's fairly entertaining but play with the sound off or risk a headache. The calculator on the phone is useful as it includes a conversion calculator for foreign money. Reminders is basically like an alarm, so you can make it beep when its time to rinse off your face mask or whatever!:-p Pretty useless considering the next section is... Clock, which includes an alarm clock, countdown timer and stopwatch. The final option on the phone is Profiles. This lets you set up different ringtones at different volumes and decide whether you want vibration on or off or whatever.I generally use it to amuse myself by changing the wording on my screen so it reads "Orange oranges" or something similarly odd. The phone is suitable for the changeable fascias that are available, so if colours to suit personality are your thing you might like it. The sound quality can be a little tinny at times but it is generally OK and its always possible to have a good conversation. The phone itself is very small, and pocket sized although I feel it is too easily lost in bags!
The reception is very good and battery standby is about 6 days, which is really convenient. The phone is well designed by I feel it's more a fashion product than anything. Because its up to date its more tempting for theives, so if you have one, take care! The options it offers are fairly pointless and although easily accessible are mostly unneccessary. If you want a sensible phone that does whats needed and nothing more, don't waste your money on a 3310.If you want a stupid trashy thing, that'll be out of date soon anyway, buy this.

- 29/06/02 Dude? Bloody 'eck!
I don't see mine as being particularly trendy. It's just an easy to use phone that's a nice size to fit in my bag without being too small. |
