The nostalgia phone!
Member Name: NotMyToothbrush
Advantages: Long battery life, very durable, reliable, it had snake pre-installed!
Disadvantages: It's not sold any more!
It seems like back in 2002 everybody had this mobile phone. I even know one person who still does which shows its reliability!
Whenever I think of an old "feature phone" this is the phone I think of because it really is the classic.
I was handed this down for my Mom when she upgraded to another and this therefore became my first mobile phone ever. When I got my SIM card I remember getting 20 free texts with it from Orange and these actually lasted me a couple of months as I only really used it to play Snake on its tiny black and white (well... black and green) LCD screen.
You really can't much simpler than this phone. It features a standard number keypad, an up/down button, a back button, a select button and a power button. That's it!
Features included text messaging (Yes, this was classed a a feature of phones when this was released), screensavers, vibration/rumble and a WAP web browser (oh how I remember WAP). There was little else it could really do.
Even though this phone had features that were pretty unique to the market at the time, it still had when Nokia phones are known for. It was pretty indestructible. Without even being specifically designed to be, this phone could handle falls, throws, compression and lots more without getting much more than a scratch. In the years I owned it I never had any issues with it not working for even a second - except of course when the battery died.
Speaking of the battery, this phone had a great one. From a single charge I could usually get a couple of days out of it without even having to think about another charge. I would usually charge it up before a weekend away and not have to take the charger with me to continue to be entertained by the pixel-snake slithering across my screen for hours on end.
One thing which I actually miss from newer phone was that the signal bar and battery bar on this phone were big and you could pretty accurately tell how much battery/signal you had at any given time due to the increased number of bars. The signal bars would run along the left-hand side of the screen and battery on the right of the homescreen and I could remember being able to pinpoint the best place for phone reception using just this little miracle gadget!
Summary: Amongst the best phones in history!
