Advantages: Does all the phone stuff and is very cheap

Disadvantages: You can't impress your mates by twittering from your phone

The Nokia 3500 classic is everything that most people will need in a phone. If you are someone who wants to check the internet and update their facebook while sitting in a park or cafe, then stop reading now.

The 3500 is basically the same phone that Nokia released when they first started getting popular a decade ago - it can make calls, it can do SMS. Added to this are the other useless items such as the games and applications.

Of course it has all the trimmings like bluetooth and a pretty decent camera (2 megapixel), a radio and MP3 player, but my favourite part about this phone is that it just works.

I can set an alarm and it wakes me up - I get a call and I hear it - I send a message and it is easy to retrieve. The battery life is also superb and lasts about a week with normal use.

One thing that makes this phone unique is that it has a metal band around the front of it to protect it from drops and bangs. This is very useful for people like me who manage to drop things all the time. Of course Nokia has always been good at this - almost any Nokia smashed into pieces will be put back together and work within about 3 seconds. A friend of mine also bought this phone because his toddler is now old enough to know how to throw things against the wall. His phone still works.

If you are really into listening to music on your phone, you can insert a miniSD card into the phone - my 2 gb card holds well over the amount of music I will ever listen to from my phone. Something to be wary of is that the factory headphones are very flimsy, so be careful with them or learn how to use a soldering iron.

The price of the phone is very low - this varies depending on where you buy it, so I won't write anything here.
