Advantages: Good for texting, Takes a lot of wear and tear

Disadvantages: I kept breaking mine!, Crashed quite a lot

Nokia 3510.

I first got this phone about 14 months ago, and to be honest I wasn’t that keen on it, but I thought I’d try it anyway. I’ve always had Nokia phones, previously I had the 402, 3210 and the 3310. The phone itself is basically your standard Nokia with a few extras thrown in.

The Menu.

The Menu is split into 10 sections, each with its own sub sections, they are as follows:
1) Phonebook
2) Messages
3) Call Register
4) Tones
5) Profiles
6) Settings
7) Games
8) Organiser
9) Tools
10) Services

Phonebook

The Phonebook, its as it sounds, the place where you store all your numbers, but you can also store other information such as email addresses, house addresses and web addresses. The phonebook is split into 12 smaller sections, in which you can add voice tags, change the view of the phonebooks list of names and swap between sim card and phone memory. On this phone you can store a total of about 500 names and numbers, 90 of those are on your sim card and the others are your phone memory. I would personally recommend that if you are going to use the phone memory then to have the numbers written down somewhere too as I did have a few problems with this which I will come to later.

Messages

To me messages is the most important part of the phone, anyone who knows me would say I never have the phone out of my hand as I’m always finding something to text about! In the messages section you can send and receive text messages, there are also various folders to store messages in, such as outbox, archive, templates, pictures and a section called my folders, where you can make your own personal folders. The texting itself is pretty good. There is the predictive text option, or just the standard ABC mode. There are also a variety of languages to choose from should you need them!

Call Register

This is the area where you will find a list of your received, missed and dialled calls, and you can also find a summary of your call durations.

Tones

This is kind of tied in with the profiles section. From here you can change the settings for the current profile you are on and choose your ringtones, which are on this phone polyphonic, and sound very cool especially (very sad I know!) Gareth Gates Spirit in the Sky!! You can
also choose your message tone alerts from here, there is the usual selection of standard, special, ascending and beep once, but there is also a personal option where you can choose a ringtone as your message alert.

Profiles

As I said earlier this ties in with tones, except you can change other things such as screensavers here and you can also stay in the profile you are in and adjust other profiles at the same time. You can also rename the profiles here.

Settings

This section covers all the phones main settings, such as security, accessories, phone, call and date and time settings. In the date and time section there is a part saying auto update of date and time on or off, this needs to be set to on, or the clock and date will stay at whatever time you set it.

Games

Another favourite section of mine! There are 5 games on this phone, kart racing where you basically have to race a kart round a track and come first! Space Impact 2, is an updated version of the 3310 Space Impact, where you are a little spaceship and you have things flying towards you and you have to shoot them away, then at the end of each level there is a boss to defeat. Dance 2 music… what can I say except… What were they thinking with this game!! You are either a girl or a Panda and you have to press the corresponding keys to the ones it tells you on the screen to get your character to dance to the music, which I might add is very bad music! Link 5 is kind of like the game connect 4, where you have to get 4 of your colour in a row to win, except with this you have to get 5, which is slightly harder! Then there’s Bumper, which is a really cool pinball game with a choice of either a golf or snake themed table!

Organiser

In here there is an alarm clock and a calendar. In the calendar you can store reminders and birthdays, when you enter a birthday, it will ask you for the year of birth, then it will calculate the age of the person and repeat the event every year, so it can be amusing to go to a random date 20 odd years from now and discover how old you and all your mates will be!

Tools

Another small section, this section hols items such as a calculator, stop watch and countdown timer.

Services

This is the WAP section of the phone. Please don’t ask what WAP stands for because I don’t know! All I know is, it is the part of the phone where you can surf certain sites on the Internet. I’ve only used this area a few times, because it is quite expensive on my service plan and also because I don’t really need to unless I’m away from home and can’t get to a computer! Also this section doesn’t seam to work when I use a pay as you go sim card.

Right then that’s the phone explained.

Battery Life

This phone has a excellent battery life of upto 8 days standby life and hours of talktime, not sure exactly how many as I don't time myself on the phone, but I do spend about an hour or so a day of it, and I can get away without charging for about 2 and half to 3 days.

Problems

I got the phone in September 2002 and it was fine until February this year when I had a lot of problems while texting when it would turn itself off, and then back on again, kind of like a computer crashing, so I took it back and they replaced it for me. Then about 2 weeks later a bottle of pop leaked in my bag completely soaking the phone, so back it went again, my fault that time I know! So know I’m on my 3rd attempt at this phone and from then it’s been fine, although the last couple of weeks it has been doing it’s on off thing again, but I think its nearly time for an upgrade anyway!

Overall

All in all I think this phone is great and defiantly worth having, I’ve had my fair share of problems with it, but I would still recommend this phone, because to be honest I do put my phones through a lot and this one has lasted me longer than any of the others, so its got to be quite tough for that!

Thanks for reading!

It quite hard to rate this review. I am tied between VH and U.

You give alot of analysis- ie. Whats there- organiser, tones, games ect. However, less of a review context. Adding another final paragraph about WHY you would recommend this phone and perhaps why you rated it the way you did. You mention in the Pros and Cons that it crashed alot- this would be helpfull to expand upon more in this paragraph. As a consumer- I dont want my phone crashing. So be sure to tell us more about this! Its a big problem which we want to know!

Otherwis e, this is a really good review and Im being really nitty gritty here. :( Im sorry, you have caught me on one of these days ;)
