Advantages: Small and Strong Facia, Light Weight, Many New Features
Disadvantages: Hard to find new Facias
A few months ago I decided enough was enough, it was time to send my old Nokia 3210 packing as it was getting rather old. Having waited for over 6 months to be told I was entitled to an update I decided to take the law into my own hands. So the next day I proceeded in going down to the local shop and double checked the date of when I was entitled a new phone, according to their records I had updated already which was wrong but thankfully that was sorted out. Anyway it turned out I was entitled to a new phone and I thought this one would be the one for me, It looked tough and durable and having owned a few Nokia's now I feel they are quite reliable phones. Apart from the Size and weight of the phone I was quite attracted by the fact It has more storage space for composing ringtones and also for text messages aswell as extra space for my phone numbers. Messages: Like most modern phones you are able to send and recieve text messages. This phone allows you to send upto 459 characters per text message and you can also change the format of the text, when I say change the format it means you are able to send it as a fax or an E-Mail. This is located within the SMS options. Call register: This facility allows you to see who you have called, who has called you, missed calls etc, This means you have no excuses for not phoning back people who you were meant to call! :-) Profiles: Profiling is great fun, you are able to customise each profile, for example if you are in a meeting you are able to have no ringtone set at all and you are able to choose a screensaver for your phone(just the same idea as on a PC) Settings: allows you access to setup your phone. Phone settings: this allows you to change the network selection, The language, Confirming Cell Info, setup a welcome note when you turn the phone on and to confirm SIM service actions. Call settings: This allows you to divert the call if you are busy, answer the pho
ne with anykey on the pad, redial numbers automatically (for example if the line you are dialing is engaged), Speed dial which allows you to set the most popular numbers that you call, activate a call waiting service(this lets you know if you have another person trying to reach you, you are warned if another call is recieved by a beeping noise) and you can also automatically withhold your number also at no extra cost. Clock Settings:You are also able to change the clock settings within the Settings option, this allows you to change between 12 and 24 hour clocks, and obviously to reset the time. Ringtone Settings: This has to be one of my favourite areas on the phone, this allows you to compose your own tones, set a funky rythmic flashing light(this flashes at the same time a tone is made on the phone). You are also able to set the tone when you recieve a text message. Games: Who can forget the Q basic game called Snake?, well now there is Snake 2 available with 3 other games, the other games are Space Impact( you fly a spaceship and shoot objects), Bumper ( this is a pinball game), Bantumi (this game I dont really understand but I believe you have to collect the most beans to win the game) and Pairs II which in its name is self explanatory. Calculator: obviously for doing sums on, this phone also allows you to convert currency (providing you know the exchange rate) Calender: Basically a pocket diary which allows you to store appointments and it allows you to set alarms with pop up messages to let you know what you had planned to do at that time of the day. Inrared: Great idea for saving money, this allows you to send phone numbers to people with the same mobile, although you wont have to pay the text fee for sending the message. Extras: This includes a Coundown Timer, a picture editor, a Stopwatch and a thermometer which reads both in C and F which is handy although I'm not very sure on its accuracy.
Services: I cant say I've ever used this but I believe it can be used for logging online. Phone Book: The phone book on this mobile is great, located on the phone itself is a small memory chip which allows you to store upto 250 names and numbers on it along with an additional 250 on the sim card itself. The phone book also allows you to use voice recognition by saying the persons name into the phone, this is another quick way of dialing people without having to search through the phonebook. I find there are a lot more menus on this phone as compared to with my Nokia 3210, Although I must admit I prefer this phone now for its sheer size and weight. The battery lasts for about 150 hours off one charge of around 1-2 hours (try not to charge the phone regularly as this can damage the batteries life expectancy), and gives about 3 hours of talktime so you have quite a bit of talktime before the battery goes dead. This phone is really funky and although it is small and compact it does have many new options compared to other phones. Sadly the only disadvantage with this Nokia is the fact you are unable to get as many facias unlike the more popular 3210 model. I would recommend this phone to anybody who is offered an upgrade or who wishes to purchase the phone. Here is an official Specification on the Nokia 5210 as from the 02 website. Specifications Band Dual 900/1800 Colour Screen No GPRS Enabled No WAP Enabled Yes Media Messaging Enabled No Lines on Screen 4 Predictive Text Input Yes Ringtones 35 fixed and 7 variable Size 105 x 47 x 22 mm Standby Time Up to 170 hours Talk Time Up to 3 hours 50 mins Vibration Alert Yes Weight 92g Key Features Xpress - on shell to protect against damage
>The Actual price for a pay monthly phone like this will cost you £14.99 and if you should have the money and are on pay as you go you will have to fork out £159.99 so as you can see, Talk isnt cheap!. Having previously mentioned having a Nokia 3210 I find this Nokia very different to use, many of the options are different aswell as the location of the phone book itself.
