Advantages: Water and shock proof, Simple Nokia operating system, Fairly cheap

Disadvantages: No MMS capability, No colour screen, Expensive cases (but never needs replacing)

1. Get it made by Nokia - the sturdiest phones around
2. Make it shockproof by adding a thick layer of rubber on all sides
3. Make it waterproof by making it fit together like a Russian doll........

This all adds to......... The Nokia 5210! The most durable phone in the world (at the moment). You could run the thing over with a car and it would probably still work. You can throw it into a swimming pool (or the sea like a certain other reviewer did to their 3310) and it will come back for more! The reason? It is a well-designed sports phone.

The phone may be aging a little now, but if you are a fan of sports, then this is essential if you insist of having your phone with you at all times. It comes with the standard programs of the G1 type of Nokia phones, such as a ringtone composer, Space Impact and the usual rock solid texting mechanism. Added to this are things like a full calendar, thermometer, Stopwatch with 10 split times, countdown timer and cool profile logos like an animated pulse. The system is the standard Nokia system, thus making it one of the simplest to use phones on the planet.

If you do not want a phone with all of the fancy camera attachments and MM messaging options of the smarmy new phones, the go for this one. The police did! The reason for this is that this phone will last for years, decades probably, even with very rough treatment, like the police may receive.

Overall ? a very tough, basic (deluxe basic even) phone for use in an active career, or people who want their phone to be safe (maybe clumsy?). For standard use i.e. calls, texting, simple games etc., this phone excels itself. If you want more advanced things and do not intend to keep your phone for too long, then avoid this phone.

No, no, no. This is the recipe for an indestructible phone:
1. Get it made by Ericsson
2. Make it shockproof by building it on a magnesium structure, cover it with high quality rubber
3. Make it waterproof by adding ePTFE membranes made by GORE (you know... they make also GORE-TEX).

That& #39;s a REALLY indestructible phone. And if haven't figured out what i'm talking about: it's the Ericsson R310s.

Oh, and some other optional ingredients:
4. Make sure the software is at least 95% bug-free.
5. Add a strap that is actually useful. (which does more than strap your phone to the arm).
6. Stand-by and Talk-time indicators in hours and minutes.

Not a Nokia fan myself I'm afraid, but as I'm always dropping my phone maybe I should convert ;-).

Ziggy.

Good looking and solid little gizmo. My one comment on this review is that for a person who is not familiar with the Nokia operating system there is not really enough info as to why it is sooooooooo good!
