Advantages: small, sporty look
Disadvantages: covers limited. thermometer unreliable
My first good phone- any phone I had before was a cast off from a family member but this one was my own and I love it. The last few phones I have had have gone missing, fell down the toilet (woops,) sort of took a spin in the washing machine or generally stopped working. I intend to look after this one. Man, how have phones progressed since the big old bricks that used to break your arms after holding longer than a minute? The nokia 5210 has got to be one of the best mobile?s invented just before the recent launch of the camera phone which is not a feature of the 5210. Unlike most of my mates I am actually quite aware of the risks of cancer and radiation from mobiles. Brain cells die rapidly from time spent talking on mobiles, scary eh? A down side of this phone is that it is a nightmare to switch on. There is a tiny button located at the top right end of the phone. It requires a fingertip nail to hold it is for a good 2 seconds until it decides to co-operate. Once it is on, things get easier. I purchased the Nokia 5210 from Carphone warehouse on contract for a year at least, £20.00 monthly plus call charges. (No free minutes or texts.) Nokia is a reputable company and I had previously heard good reports on this phone. It comes packaged in a box with charger, manual, hands-free kit and a blue X-press on shell. Fully charged which gave me 3 hours talk time/ approx. 100 hours on standby mode. It appeared different than other phones; it has a vertical intact 2 ways scrolling button, with blue up and down arrows, enabling the user to scroll through options and names in the phone book. There was also 2 separate buttons, which allowed the user to end and make calls, a red and green phone icon respectively. The screen displayed the operator logo and on the right a ?Names? and ?Menu? option, which could be accessed using two dashed buttons located under these options on the keypad. It was useful to access the phone book directly i
nstead of searching for a name via the phone book. The phones specifications: - Messages were the first section of the phones menu. I could write messages, view my inbox and outbox, send picture messages (pre formatted, not sourced from a camera,) use smiles and templates. A great combination of options. Writing messages are incredibly simple to do, the phone had pre-programmed dictionaries in many languages which were all in predictive text if the user wanted. And each message had a maximum of 450 characters, a lengthy number by anyone?s standard. Then there is a call register function next in line. It contains functions that allow you to view missed calls, received calls, numbers dialled. You will find yourself using these more than you imagined. If your phone cannot be reached in time for a call or you are in an area of no signal this will record the callers number and time of call on whatever date. Settings is a useful menu, tones can be adjusted. Here you can compose your own ring tones using composer. This saves money as they can be got for free on websites; try searching ?Nokia key press ring tones?. Or enable vibrate option or use any of the phones many ring tones. Personally I prefer toreador. It never gets old. Ring tones can also have a rhythmic light background in time to their beat. Pretty funky. Call divert is an option. If you want to bar people from calling you, if you are busy or want your head showered from calls, you can divert all calls to voicemail or even another number. There are a few decent games to keep you occupied while bored at home, on the bus or whatever. They come in handy although murder the battery rapidly. They include snake 2, pairs 2, space impact, bantumi and bumper. Other features on the phone are the calendar, which allows you to add notes and reminders, there?s a calculator, currency converter, picture editor, although patience is needed. Or you
can take a inaccurate reading of the temperature with the thermometer, it is never right for example one cold winters morning the forecast read -1, my wonderful phone said 15c. Countdown timer and stopwatch are useful for a bit of fun like in my case timing sprints with my mates or whatever floats your boat. There is a really good infrared device, allowing you to send things like phone numbers and ring tones to other infrared enabled phones. Simply hold the infrared part of the phone in line with another phone to receive the number. This is a free option and in my opinion far better than forking out 12p or 15p. This phone also has the Internet but costs an absolute fortune, you could download games or ring tones, and it has to be set up by selecting country of residence, number and so on via the wap. Also a costly operation. The phone has got a huge memory for numbers and you?ll never use them all, 450 to be precise 200 on the sim card and 250 to the phones hardware memory. Overall the Nokia 5210 is really durable and waterproof with many great features. I advice anyone thinking of purchasing it to opt for the blue cover as the orange and the rest of my tried colours get sickening and give the urge to be changed. It is really reliable and so should be the one for you. Thanks ever so much for reading. I hope to pay back the favour.
