Advantages: stylish design, excellent audio quality
Disadvantages: not really that of a big deal but they could have been better: 7 MB phone memory and 1.3 MP camera
I'm close to my second year of using the phone and I'm pretty much satisfied with it. Although, I think it is not a "must have" phone but I guess it can already satisfy one's need of functionality and entertainment. Let me review the product in the following aspects:
Design - Unique and Stylish
Nokia 5300 has this modern sliding phone design that is very trendy. It is compact and musically featured. There are dedicated music keys on the left side of the phone which let you play, stop or pause your music. I believe these keys which are rubberized are pretty much helpful and unique to Xpressmusic line of Nokia phones. Volume and camera keys are found on the right side. The display is also wide enough (2' QVGA TFT in 262, 144 colours) which makes watching music videos and graphics absolutely delightful. The keypads are softer to touch when I try to compare it to my old 3660 and other Nokia phones I have before. The casing or phone cover is also stylish.
Music - Excellent
Nokia would describe this product as a super sound machine. Well, yeah. I definitely agree. That is one good reason why it is called an Xpressmusic phone. Many features are dedicated for auditory entertainment. You can play hundreds of your favorite songs (since the memory card can be upgraded to 2 Gig) using the music player. You can also organize them in a playlist. The phone also comes with FM radio. One great thing is that the audio quality is really excellent.
Camera - Not a disappointment although just 1.3 MP
I don't think one should be disappointed with the phone's 1.3 MP camera, at all. Well, before I bought the product my concern was that the phone is too expensive for its 1.3 MP camera. As I tried taking pics, I was amazed by the quality of them. They seemed to have more colors and are enhanced. You can also choose effects like Sepia, Greyscale, False Colours, etc.
Messaging - Easy
What I like about Nokia Phones is that they are user friendly. I guess, this one is not an exception. You can easily send, receive, and move from one folder to another SMS and MMS using the phone. You can also store thousands of messages since the built-in phone memory is around 7 MB.

That's basically it. I hope I was able to help. Have a great day!
