I bought this phone around 3 years ago after coming of lots of cheap mobile phones. At the time the phone cost me around £100 and I loved it! It was very thin at the time (it still is compared to most phones), it had a half decent camera, it could play music, and it had bluetooth! At the time these were features that I really wanted as I was only 16.
The phone was pay as you go so I never really used the web on it, but the few times I did use it, it was fairly slow. The camera on the phone was nothing special but it took a few pictures which I still have today. The battery on the phone is pretty good, and would last a few days. The screen on the phone was crystal clear and continues to look amazing even today. The sound quality is also very good for the size of the phone, however it does start to sound tinny after reaching half the volume it is capable of. I still think the phone looks very stylish now, it is very thin, very small and it looks smart.
I was sad to let this phone go (I decided to get a contract phone). I have since given the phone to my 16 year old brother and he loves it. It continues to have no problems after 3years of purchasing and this is very rare in mobile phones. Still a brilliant phone 3 years later.
I purchased this phone about 3 years ago and happily used it as my main phone up until about 2 months agi when I decided it was time to upgrade my phone.
The main reason I chose this phone was for its design, it is a very slim phone, mainly black in colour, with a red stripe on either side at the screen and easy to control music buttons on one side of the red stripe. The keyboard is also very compact, but big enough to make it easy enough to use.
The actual features of the phone are very good, with many fun games included, organisational features such as memo, calendar and timer, and simple to use phonebook function. My favourite feature of this phone is the music function, as it is very easy to use, and you can organise your music into specific playlists of your choice. It also shows album artwork and when you lock the phone it shows the name of the song that is currently playing. The ovi music centre associated with it is also very easy to use, and the prices are very reasonable when compared to other leading music purchasing places.
Overall a very niftly little phone
I've had this phone for over almost 2 years, and it's definitely been worthwhile. It was fairly cheap - for some reason £90 is coming to mind, although I looked it up today and it still seems to be going for over £100 even now, so I could be wrong.
The phone itself - as you can see from the picture, it's very slim, looks very nice. My model is the same as the one I can see in the picture now, black with red buttons. It's also fairly small, definitely fits in the average jeans pocket/handbag pocket.
The music - The music player is easy to use, and with a 4GB memory card slot, you can fit a lot on. Sound quality is awful if you play through the phone speakers, but there's a headphone socket (for normal headphones, not the annoying ones that only let you put in their make of headphones) and it sounds fine through that. The buttons on the front can often set off the music while it's in your pocket, so it's best to be careful if you're somewhere quiet.
Camera - It's not the best I've seen but for the age of the phone, it's good. It's 2 megapixels and the quality is very good on screen, average to good on the computer. The only problem I've found is that there's quite a delay when pressing the button to it actually taking the picture - if you have a moving subject it will probably miss it.
Games - It has Snake 3, Music Guess and City Bloxx. I've found the last one to be amazingly addictive, it's brilliant for something to do on the bus. Snake 3 is, for some reason, a lot worse than the original Snake games, it's quite annoying to play. Never really played Music Guess, it's quite boring.
Layout - The layout of the menu is nice and simple and there are a lot of themes to choose from. There's not much need to read the instructions as it's as you would expect.
Robustness - In the first few months, the sides of the phone (where the music buttons are) got quite chipped and scratched. Not long after the 0 button came off, but nothing else has dropped off since.
Got to admit though, I've dropped it repeatedly and left it to get rained on and it's still kept going.
Reliability - I've found the software to be absolutely rubbish. It runs fine for the first months, and then things start slowing down and there are a lot of glitches. For example, every time I tried to delete more than one text message at once, the screen would freeze and wouldn't even turn off with the off switch, and I had to take the battery in and out. Also, sometimes the phone wouldn't properly 'wake up' - it would just refuse to go on to text messages, saying it wasn't ready, but this could be half an hour after you turned the phone on.
I did just install a software update not long ago, and it's been fine since then, so maybe the tip is to keep it updated and it will run smoothly.
Overall? I'm glad I bought it, as friends have had 3 phones broken in the space of me having one, but possibly I could have got a lot better for a little more money.
This was the first phone I got with a camera and played music and so i naturally loved it at first. It has numerous features and looks aesthetically pleasing, however, looking back I see it wasn't at all that great...
Firstly, i thought that having MP3 buttons on the side of the phone would be great - quick and easy to play music. However, the horror of sitting in silence at a university day with 200 odd students listening to one man talk before a load ringing out of "safety pins holding up the things that make you mine...." put me off straight away. Somehow I had pressed th play button and then my phone decided to lock itself! I was soooo embarrassed. :'(
Another negative feature of the phone is the camera. It's fairly good but the lighting is a bit too light and once you have taken a picture it takes roughly 20 seconds of loading time before you can take another image - this often lead me to missing a photo of funny moments. The video recording only allows roughly 20 seconds of film before stopping, also resulting in missing funny moments.
After about 2 months of owning the phone the little rotatable door for the usb lead had snapped off. After about 5 months of owning my new Nokia 5310 it started to have a fault. When I plugged in the phone for charging the phone would not respond for a good 5mins before suddenly awakening for charging.
A year and a half later my phone packed it in and refused to switch on, charge do anything.
More positive features include the fantastic memory space for music and images and it's looks; The coloured stripes come in different colours such as blue, red and pink.
I'd say this phone is ok for a first phone for a early teen however, I have read many reviews and it seems this phone becomes faulty within the first year and the features aren't at all that great.
The price is ok, but maybe a little too overpriced for it's quality. It seems to be on sale for roughly £90.00 when my new phone - a touch screen, fully coloured, lighter phone with a much, much better camera was only £80!
I've had this phone for over a year now, and this is probably the first phone that I've not gotten bored of after less than a year! It is very light to carry, so it may not even feel like you're carrying it, although sometimes that doesn't seem like a good thing! Whilst it isn't exactly top of the range, it has everything I need, for example, it has a memory card slot, and I use a 4gb memory card, which is enough memory for me and my music. It also has a radio which is good, and the camera is of good quality, and the video recorder is also of decent quality. Whilst the pre-installed games aren't very good, I went to the orange store and bought some great games.
The style of the phone is very nice, and the sidebar with the play buttons are particularly useful because you can change the song without needing to go on the phone.
The sound quality of the person talking to you is also very clear, so there are no issues with that.
Unfortunately some games I bought wouldn't work with the phone, something I was greatly disappointed in. That is the only downfall of this phone, apart from that, if you're looking for a cheap phone, with good features, buy it.
This is a really good phone to buy and cheap. The music side to it is very good and you can arrange your songs by Artist, Albums and alphabetically. It is a light phone and easy to carry.
It takes good quality images but you may have to watch you dont get dirt under the lense on this phone. The phone itself has a lot of memory and can store a lot of photos and videos!
The internet side to this phone is also good. this phone is good for ebuddy use and internet things like facebook. This phone is also very custimisable, you can apply differnet themes to your liking. it is easy to navigate and you can create shortcuts to help you get around.
MAIN BAD SIDE:
The main bad side is that if your not careful, this phone will brake. It is good at surviving drops, but will suffer from minor scratches, its just the screen. The screen seems to break easy and stop working if you are not really careful.
also the music buttons on the side are a good idea, but very annoying. Quite a lot of times I have had this phone in my pocket, and it has started playing music. Also while I have had it in my hands.
Would I recommend this phone?
This is a good phone, but getting outdated now, and there are plenty of new, better ones. This is good for music, but their are newer nokia music phones out that you may want to try. If your still not sure, then yes, this is a good phone to buy.
This nokia phone, I would say is the best within the Nokia Xpress range. It's also perfect fit for any types of handbags to pocketbags. The size also does not compromise the bulkiness when we put it in our jeans. Although at times, I forget where i put the phone.
The design of the phone is fairly simple and is very noticeable for a nokia phone from afar. Even though it is a simple phone, it looks contemporary with the red strip of color on the both side of the screen.
One of the problems i have found, are the buttons. Since i have quite a large hand, i would always text quite uncomfortably, trying to arrange the phone in the middle of my both hands. Also, the buttons are fairly small and sometimes i would make spelling mistake. Perhaps it is not a problem for people who have smaller hands.
The camera is effectively 2-megapixel however, this phone is not generally intended for camera use because of its size. Although, the quality of photos taken are unexpectedly quite high and crisp.
Furthermore, the music player is the best feature of this phone and it also comes with 2gb memory card for extra storage. The sound is excellent and its very clear, almost forget that this nokia 5310 is a phone. Because of the quality, i usually bring my phone to the gym and use it as a mp3 player. Another reason for gymming is the size and the weight.
Not only the music player, but the battery life is superb. I hardly charge my phone and i have had this phone for more than a year. I usually charge it once or twice a week.
The phone also comes with pre-installed games, including City Blox and Snake 3. City Blox is an interesting game, testing our patience since the main point of the game is to drop houses on top of each other while it's swinging from one side to another. Quite a brain challening game. Snake 3 is common for every nokia user and unlike the original, the game is in 3d and comes with more items.
Overall, the phone is a great item for gymming, and all other outdoor activities. Slim, lightweight and simplicity brings a fair use to a wide range of age group. Even more, this phone is under 100 pounds which brings a reasonable price to everyone.
I've written this review in bullet point form to keep it easy to read and get the points across quickly.
- I had this phone for approx a year and a half. It is very reliable for texting and ringing. Very straight forward to text anyone, no complicated features or menus. Simply create new message, enter receiver and then type.
- Easy volume control, two buttons on the right side to turn volume up and down.
- Small size makes it easy and not feel-able when in pockets etc so it's not a distraction.
- Very strong for how lightweight and small in size the phone is, I'm a biker and I've dropped it countless times even at speed and there has been no performance or software defects at all with the phone. And for the amount of times I've dropped it too. The physical damage has been minimal.
- Customizable settings, all the normal expected stuff such as themes etc but this phone also lets you edit the little things that usually people get annoyed by such as font size and name arrangement in the contact book.
- Everything accessible and clearly organized in the menu selection.
- Basic camera/video options
- Even though i never used this feature. Apparently the phone is praised for its music player and options.
- Buttons light up so you can type/ring in the dark/pitch black very easily.
- Very good battery life (on a full charge even after 1+ year, i would say my phone left on full for 3-4 full days)
- Room for a memory card
- Irritating music buttons on the left hand side that play recent music files. Irritating because if you don't like locking your keypad, Ring tones songs etc can go off in awkward moments. (But you will probably find this feature useful if you want the phone for music)
- Area surrounding the camera on the back seems prone to scratching.
- Camera isn't really up to scratch where quality is involved in comparison to other phones today.
- Same applies for video
Overall i would say the phone is very good if your prefer reliability over looks or gadgets. It will last you a long time.

Nokia music express 5310 :
This phone was brought for me last year as a Christmas present and i found that it was more of a music phone and it was built for the more younger generation .
I found that it was all right to text on but it was a lot better quality for the music more like an i pod or an mp3 .
I found that the battery kept running out really quick even though i hardly played my music .
i did not really enjoy this phone trough the period of time that i did have it .
although i did like the camera
but for one hundred and twenty four pound i thought that the value was not all that good .
I did not find it much use to me but i would have it as a backup phone or just for the music .
I would recommend it for the younger generation or if you do not mind this sort of thing but not necessarily for the older people of the community .
over all :i would not recommend this phone for older generation but more for the younger people .
Today nokia meets apple, and you wont be disappointed. This is a competitive, superior quality and without doubt a music station which can compete with apple range products. This phone has everything you need for the music induced lover from an aesthetically, sleek, light weight and ultra thin easy to use interface to a generous 2GB music storage card, which brings the music straight to your doorstep.
This phone is equipped with a reliable, long lasting battery, which I must say, compared to my apple shuffle or other phones, the battery out performs others. Lasting up to 24 hours with music non stop, your sure to travel from ends of earth tuning your way into the music age. Its simple, yet effective interface options and incorporated music features, makes music downloading, music arrangement, and music profiling the easiest yet.
The 2 mega pixel camera is certainly an attractive feature, while I didn't find the pictures to be of high quality it certainly filled in the times when I may have forgot my digital camera.
All in all, a reliable phone, I have had it for 2 years and have not had one problem with it, plenty of storage for all your music needs. Its design certainly keeps up with the technological age!
I am an avid collector of mobile phones, but I have to say that none of them impressed me as much as Nokia 5310 Express music. Apart from certain drawbacks that include a rather disappointing lack of video calls and streaming, I would say that I love practically everything about this handy little phone!
If you ask me, I truly believe that this is one of the best mobiles on the market. In fact, the very first thing that I liked about it is that it is slim and easy to carry around. I am someone who travels a lot and you can only imagine to what extent is having such a lightweight phone handy to me. That's not to mention the fact that it is also thus a real fashion accessory; it won't be a bulge in your pocket and give an unwanted form to your clothes. Most suited to the fashion conscious people out there! Personally, I tend to choose mobile phones based on the structure and weight because I think a good mobile phone has to be practical- and this one really suited my needs.
Another element that I love about this phone is that it can contain up to 350 songs. I personally use a 2GB memory card and is good for taking on the spot photos if I don't happen to my my camera on hand.. The Nokia 5310 has a 3.5mm jack which lets you put any kind of pinhead earplug. The amount of games that can be downloaded is great, and the screen "gets you easily in the game". I know that there are better graphics out there but I was personally okay with the graphic set up in this mobile phone!
And of course, like many other Nokia phones, this one can become a handy little PDA, with the help of the calendar and organizer. It also supports mail and mms, but the lack of streaming capacities and video call option kind of limits these above mentioned options. The sound, however, is quite clear. I am quite picky on sound quality because trust me when I say that I have used some supposedly good mobile phones with awful sound transmission!
I am quite a clumsy person and my mobile has fallen more times than I care to admit but it is still rocking, and in nearly pristine condition. I think that I can say it is shock resistant. Mine fell into the shower once and with a quite dry up with my hair dryer, it became as good as new!
Talking time can be minimum 5hours20minutes, even if that might also depend on how old your battery is.
I would say that it is the most wonderful mobile phone i can think of, if you like simplicity and music; this is definitely a mobile to go for. It is simply the best amongst the best mobile phones that I have used, and despite the slight drawbacks, I still recommend it to anyone who wants a posh, lightweight mobile phone.
I have had this phone for about a year and a half. It very reliable phone and an ideal size to just slip into a pocket or bag.
The camera is advertised as really good as it is 2 mega pixels but in my opinion it could be better. Pictures often are fuzzy and once you press the button to take a picture it does take some time until the picture takes and then once it has taken you need to wait for about 15 seconds until you can actually see it. So its not ideal if you are trying to take many pictures in a row as there is along wait.
But the Music Player is fabulous. It is very loud compared to to other phones. I haven't had that many phones but this one is definitely the best. I personally dont have an ipod or Mp3 player so just use this as mine. It is perfectly good quality sounds. The music isn't annoying and bad quality like on some other phones. Five star for that.
Recently the phone has started to freeze occasionally. It might happen 3 times a fortnight and can freeze from any amount of time from 10 minutes to 10 seconds. I wasn't to happy with that but it might just be a dodgy one as i have not heard of anybody else's doing that.
The games are not fabulous. But everything is quite good on the phone. Brilliant music player but not a fabulous camera.
For the past 6 years I have had a sort of addiction to Nokia phones, and I have been disappointed by a single model, the 5310 keeps my addiction going!
The phone is attractive and lightweight, the size of the phone is also a bonus as you can slip it into your pocket without a massive bulge.
As with all Nokia's the phone is extremely simple to use, the music player is layed out in such a format that you'd struggle to get stuck.
The phone has a nice large memory, which is useful when you have a 2 mega pixel camera and a lot of music to play.
The speakers too are to a high standard and play loud music very clearly, and if thats not enough mine came with some nice free speakers which give an even better sound.
I personally had a problem with the screen freezing, when I gave it to the Carphone Warehouse the engineer said there was water damage, which was complete rubbish as the phone had never been exposed to water or humid conditions. Maybe it's a problem with a part of the phone, but after resetting the phone completely, it seems to be working fine again.
The phone comes with a nice choice of new themes and even allows you to customise the music player - a nice touch.
All in all, a great phone!
The Nokia 5310 xpress music is an attractive, light-weight, easy to use mobile phone. Ive owned this phone for nearly a year now but the phone had a software problem after 4 months but this was fixed free of charge by Nokia and returned within 28 days to my local carphone warehouse. The phone has many features including 2 mega pixel camera, video camera, fm radio and easy to use internet access. The phone comes with a 2gb memory card 30mb in the phone which is great for the price we also got some cute speakers free.
The menu is easy to navigate and there arent to many options to confuse. The side buttons on the phone make the music player easy to use.
The plus points of this phone are clear loud sound, large memory and a large colour screen
The bad points are the software malfunction that can occur, battery life and the screen can freeze after prolonged use of the music player
Overall I would reccomend this phone even with its bad points, this phone is still great for the price and nokia customer service is very good.
The Nokia 5310 is a very good, reliable mobile phone. It's physical design is very well put together. It's a slim line mobile phone that is fairly light and easy to carry allowing you to take it anywhere whether it be for a walk around the shops or if you're off out with the family. The 5310has lots of applications within the phone, including internet access, video recording, good audio quality and camera.
The phone is very easy to use and therefore it would be a mobile that would suit most people; regardless of their expertise with modern technology. Infact I have this phone and I am only 22 years old and I know my self someone that is in their fifties that has this phone and some one that is in their teens. This just proves that this phone is also very versatile and easy to use.
I have had this model for about a year now and had no problems with it what so ever. Brand new it only cost me around £100 and I still use it to this day, which just proves the sheer value for money this product delivers.
This phone is very good for general use however if its new technology your after this model is now fairly old compared to newer models in the market. Another down side to this mobile phone is that it is quite light and because it is fairly small i tend to lose quite alot especially when it is in my rather large hand bag because it is difficult to feel it.
