************* * Introduction * ************* I wanted a phone for along time, I didnt really want any fab features, just wanted a small, light and inexpensive phone to use for Business and Pleasure. My initial idea was a Nokia 8250 from eBay... I won one for ?81 ($137.50 AUD) and was in the process of paying when I saw this stand-alone Nokia 5510 (only one on Auction on eBay.com.au!) going for $135 AUD, and I bid for $137.50 I remarkably won the phone for exactly the same price as the Noia 8250.. Obviously I had to tell the Nokia 8250 salesperson to take a hike, and got a bad rating as a result.. But I got the Nokia 5510. ***************************** * Features, Functionality & Design * ***************************** As I said, I didnt want a flashy mp3 player or radio in my phone. I just wanted a phone! But when I checked out the Nokia 5510, on Nokia websites, and review sites such as DooYoo, I found out how great the Nokia 5510 was.. When it arrived I was shocked! All the pictures I had seen showed the phone to be incredibly big and bulky, but when I got it, it was quite small.. I myself have been the owner of a Noka 3330 previously, so I wasnt dismayed or annoyed by the size, only thing was the way it should be held, the slanted sides put me off, but I got used to it... The features are astounding! Perfect sound quality (with comfy headset!) wether using the mp3 player (64mb - enough for 2cds if you compress properly) or the fantastic radio (10 presets!) ... Its ease of use was OK.. But took some time to get used to playing Snake II with the new controls... Argh! But I got the hang of it, now I play Snake II the same as I did on the Nokia 3330. The design's OK.. Could be slightly better... The wasted "silver" lining of the screen could of been used to make the screen bigger, if not, colour... The screen's just a standard Nokia one, but could of been colour if they tr
ied hard enough... The fact that u need to stick in two HDD plugs for the headset and handsfree put me off, and it makes me harder to hold the phone and type when you do so... No wonder the Nokia pictures only show people listening to music, and never typing at the same time :P ********** * Software * ********** I dont know what Nokia Designers were thinking of when they came up with this... Im using Win2000 with enough spec to triple if not, quadrupal, the minimum spec for the software... Its ease of use comment is a JOKE... I ended up making each mp3 its own playlist on my first try.. and whats the point of putting the mp3s into .lse format, even though there the same size???!?!?!?! And they dont delete themselves afterwards either :@ ************ * Conclusion * ************ Hot phone, nice look, smaller than you would of thought... Great features.. Bundled with loads of stuff.. Good design, overall.. could of been better... Terrible software.. Ive made my own now, and am using that.. Nokia has annoyed me quite a bit!!! Slightly annoying keyboard when you plug cables in.... I would definetly buy this phone again! I would buy it as a gift, but make sure the person has mp3s or CD's to rip :P Thats the only thing that makes this phone combat its design flaws and shitty software... The fact that it has great features, great sound quality, and flawless QWERTY keyboard... I've bought it, and so should you! Thanks for reading my review, its my first, and I know it sucks, and isnt complete... But for my first, I dont think its too bad... :P Thanks, Joel.
