Advantages: Compact design, ease of use
Disadvantages: Camera zoom and flash, fingerprints on screen!
As an alternative to the iPhone, Nokia have hit the mark with the 5800 XpressMusic.
The phone is more compact than the iPhone and is easier to handle, especially with one hand!
The main, selling point of this phone, is it's media capability - and I can assure you that you won't be disappointed by the sound quality of your music or the quality of video that you can view on the 3.2 inch screen. Coupled to that: the BBC iPlayer is preloaded as an app on the phone and I can assure you that it brightens up many a dull train journey!
The touchscreen technology is smooth and very responsive - although it may take a while for you to remember to use the stylus rather than your finger on the screen, as the only issue here is that the screen does get covered with greasy fingerprints.
The pre-loaded GPS is brilliant (be warned though: you may have to pay an extra fee for a license to use it - i.e. on top of your contract price!)
The applications are great for this phone - register for the Nokia OVI store and you'll be amazed at what you can do with the phone.
The 3.2 megapixel camera is very good if the lighting conditions are OK and you're not relying on the zoom functionality of the camera - as I've found that pictures using the flash and/or zoom can appear 'grainy' once transferred to a PC.
Having said all this, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is a phone. The call quality of the phone is excellent, the battery life is good and would I recommend this phone to you? Well, yes, I would!!
Summary: A good phone overall - as it is a phone. The other 'toys' enhance the phone experience
