Advantages: Speaker, screen size (till it cracks), maps if you get lost.
Disadvantages: Being stuck in a 18month contract with this phone.
Still very new to this site and love the fact i can praise or moan about anything I want, well today its a moan I'm afraid.
I have had the Nokia 5800 for just over 3 months now, and truly wish i hadn't bothered.
I am with Carphone Warehouse and have been for about 5 years (though this could change), i have been overall happy with there service till now.
Once i was due for an upgrade, i was thinking of going for an i-phone so i contacted CPW to discuss this. The guy who took my call informed that the 5800 was just like the i-phone but had better technology. I decided to give a go. I must say the guy was dishonest from the start and i had to ask for the free internet and PSP which you normally get with 18mnts contracts.
On arrival i was impressed with its slick looks, big screen. This is where it ended though.
All the apps that you are suppose to get like the i-phone do not seem to exist, the touch screen is very slow in reacting, the camera is very poor under low light........
After just one day the screen under the glass front had cracked after spending a day in my pocket. I took this problem to the shop who said it was a common problem and would cost me £70 or £35 if insured to fix. They suggest i use the case it comes with but i found this impossible to get out of to take a call before the answer phone clicks in.
I never bothered to get it fixed as the crack wasn't to bad, but now i was not allowed to return the phone which i found useless.
After months of freeze frames, calls not turning off, general black outs, i returned the set through my insurance company (Lifeline) who replaced it free of charge not because of the cracked screen though.
More problems-
It stores everything directly to the phone memory which is very small, and not to the much larger memory card, this fills up very quickly and stops you receiving texts . You cannot change this setting and it doesn't even tell you how to move items to the card, i had to contact Nokia directly for that one.
The I-player will only work on WIFI and not on the net meaning its pretty useless.
You can not open email attachments.
It is very had to scroll down your contacts.
It still has its 'Freezing moments' regular.
The battery struggles to last more than 24hrs and not even that if i dare venture on to the web.
What apps?
The music player isn't very easy to use and still maintain the use of the phone.
There are a few good points that are worth mentioning-
The screen is a nice size.
The speaker is by far the best i have heard.
The maps are generally very good if not all that straight forward to use.
I used to be a Sony Ericsson man but my last phone was a Nokia 5800 slider which i had over 11 replacements for in 12months and now i have 14 months left with another useless Nokia. Yeeeeeeee!
I have since had a play with an I-Phone and it is miles ahead. Do not make the same mistake i did. If you want one, buy one.
Summary: If your after an I-phone buy one and not this poor excuse for touch screen phone.

- 22/09/09 I find the nokia.com forums are a good place to go if you have tech probs with ur phone. There may be answers on how to save to your card and not the phone, etc. Sorry to hear your probs with this. |
