Advantages: Compact, good battery and excellent camera
Disadvantages: It's complexity, lack of instruction mannual
I got this, full of ideas about being out and about and being to access the internet and do the odd price comparrison when I set my eye on something. Unfortunately I do not have a five year old to give me the course. The first problem presented itself.
INSTRUCTIONS
The instruction booklet is very basic. I looked up the instruction mannual to find that it is two hundred plus pages cross reference section to section so you need the lot. Its not feasible to try reading through the pages on a computer and teach use of the phone for obvious reasons. Being away fro home, power etc. I found the instruction manual to be difficult reading because of unknown computing and phone terms. (no 5 yr old to interpret)
SCREEN SIZE
One of the major reasons for my getting this particular model is the screen size. It is easier on my eyes. Even with the larger screen I had lots of problems to make out the text. Manouvering on the screen also caused me problems.
INTERNET CONNECTION
It just appeared to take forever to load a page even when connected through my broadband at home. Refreshing pages, likewise very slow. The text is so small and so little of the page is showing that I gave up but will try again when I get a better grip on how to travel around the various icons.
MP3
There is an MP3 capability which claims to hold a vast quantity of music. I can see it taking forever to scroll through song lists as to date I have not found a search mode but there might well be one. The sound quality is actually quite good, so good that I by far prefer using it standing alone as opposed to using the supplied ear pieces. I am going to get a small speaker set when I can get the right buy.
VOICE CALLS
Good for calls, I am on O2 and have not yet ever had connection fade in or out problems. Excellent for text sending and reception.
TEXTING
Fully capable of sending both picture and video messages. In fact there is so much capability that I have yet to find out where the items are and how to use them.
CAMERA
I have been taking photographs for years with all manner of equipment and am exceptionally impressed with the photo capability. Blutoothed to my laptop in seconds and really does match the snaps taken on a full blown Fujifilm digital camera.
GPS
GPS capabilities come as standard, supposedly for life through the Nokia Ovi site. I have not used it a great deal, but did go astray in central London looking for a certain address. It all went into action very quickly and really did it's job. Downfall, once again the screen size. I would not want to use this for vehicle travel but on foot in town, pretty good.
BATTERY LIFE
The claims made do not match reality, but then again I doubt that any will dowhat they claim except under exceptional circumstances. My first battery was dying in about two days. Replaced immediately (see below) and no further problem experianced with a long life before the need to recharge.
NOKIA CUSTOMER SERVICES
I had bought direct from Nokia, found the relevant numbers and after the hassle of automated systems spoke to Nokia customer services who where very good. A replacement battery was despatched that day and arrived the very next morning. Even better for Nokia standards was that I was unexpectantly at my parents address as opposed to home where the phones were bought and delivered. I expected the obvious problem but the battery arrival speaks for itself.the customers
CUSTOMISATION
I got one of these for the wife at the same time. We have both been 'playing' and the two are very different beasts. Mine has photographs that come up from known callers. The wifes actually announces the callers name if the number is recorded in her address book. (A dalek type voice but recognisible)
WORTH IT OR NOT?
All in all, I bought this Nokia due to a combination of previous experiance, a good deal, getting the same for each of us as above. I still have a great deal to learn about the phone to allow me to use it to its potential but I am satisfied that it will do more than the job I want it to be capable of. I just wish I had the 5 year olds knowledge. I hope this helps
