Nokia 5800 XpressMusic
Advantages: Long lasting case, pen, good size
Disadvantages: low battery life, problems with software
The Nokia 5800 xpress music does tend to be a bit of a paradox to be to be honest. I remember 3 years ago when it came out I was so excited about it I couldn`t wait for my upgrade. Especially because of the feature advertised by Nokia so much about the Unlimited music Downloads. Personally I am honestly quite obsessed with music and that sounded lie the deal of a life time!
Went on and got it and I literally spend a whole week on the phone trying to find everything that can be done on it. My first disappointment came when i discovered that in fact, the unlimited music collection was not available on the phone that I have purchased even though it was advertised as so.
*Features and Usability
It comes with a pen which I did find quite good especially for people with larger fingers or hands it`s much easier to use that way. The screen tends to be a bit too sensitive to touch sometimes and other times completely oblivious to touch! Thats one of the reasons why I called it a paradox.
I did like the colours and the resolution for pictures is actually quite good considering the year its from. Pictures are very easy to take with the side photo button that turns on the camera instantly. You do have to make sure that the glass covering the camera is completely clean if you want decent pictures and not some GhostBuster style phantoms in your Gallery.
As much as it is a basic full touch screen I was quite pleased with it for about 1 year, not surprised that that`s exactly how long the guarantee lasted for also :) After that, the battery started dying in around 5 hrs more or less even if I stopped using it as much. The games on the OVI STORE did get me addicted for ages but besides the games and the bbc player app there arent too many attractions. I mean let`s face it Symbian, is quite limited after 1 point.
One great thing about it is that you can add any sd card to it so you will end up having space for absolutely all the songs you can ever imagine or pictures or videos. Also another problem I have encountered with this phone is the update. Once a new update became available, the phone was going completely bonkers and it was hard to use, it blocked every 15 min, screen went blank more times than I can remember and not only once I had all my data erased !!!
For its time this Symbian phone was a good and sturdy Nokia phone, just as Nokia promised but I`m afraid that the problems with the software made it a bit less appealing than it could have been. What was a sweet dream in the beginning turned into a horrible nightmare after precisely 1 year after using it every day. I do recommend it for people that aren`t deeply involved with their phone such as myself :) and definitely for people who want a long lasting mediocre phone but that`s about it. This is the first Nokia I have been disappointed by :(
