Advantages: Small and Light in a generation of bigger phones.

Disadvantages: New Charger, Blurry Camera, Bluetooth Function doesn't work, Low Memory and Battery Life + More!

The Nokia 6111 was one of the choices for my last upgrade. I went for it because it was small light and pink (the other choice is silver). This is not a complete review as unfortunately I'm still learning to use it. I will update accordingly. However I have made the discovery that there are quite a few facts that the trainee who convinced me to get this neglected to mention.

************************************************* ****

Features according to Nokia;

Compact Chic Design,
Comfortable Fit in The Hand,
Megapixel Camera,
Nokia Xpress audio messaging,
Mp3 Player,
Video Streaming,
Push To Talk.

************************************************* ****

Advantages;

This is a cute little phone with great graphics and a real wow factor. I love the video function and the radio, plus you can download some great games for it.

The sliding top is smooth and makes for easier use than a flip front phone and the screen is a good size.

The Camera has some really advanced features, for example you can zoom in on pictures while you're taking them and ALSO afterwards, enabling you to see the look on that person's face or that big wave or even the writing on a T-shirt.

Bluetooth enables you to send mp3's to the phone and listen to them through the headphones on a playlist or even use them as ringtones with no conversion required.

************************************************* ****

Disadvantages;

The best features of Nokia phones have always been the ease of use. The menu is readable and fairly self explanatory as you would expect. After this, things get a little more difficult. The battery life falls short of expectations, as does the memory. The battery problem may be a result of so many functions. If you get this phone, be prepared to carry your charger with you and to devote serious time to housekeeping your messages and photos. High maintenance and my phone spends a lot of time off due to the battery issue.

Set up is required for anyone else to send you a picture or for you to send outgoing pictures. This is a complicated process. You will require 'enhancements' for the phone to get some of the functions. Be prepared to spend time and money sorting out these issues.

Despite reassurance that "of course" the camera would be better than the one on my previous phone, pictures inexplicably lack definition.

Bluetooth seems to have been blocked on these phones or at least not fully functioning. You cannot forward packages you have downloaded to the phone. You can't send pictures from the bluetooth menu. Or at least I can't, despite reading the manual cover to cover.

It's hard to search through your contacts.

Last and definitely least, you can't charge this with a standard Nokia charger and the little flap which has to be lifted (frequently!!) for charging, feels somewhat flimsy.

************************************************* ***

I'll leave the decision to buy or not up to you. I hesitate to recommend either way - in today's market any phone will be obsolete as soon as you own it.

UPDATE: Less than 6 months after buying this phone, the battery charger no longer works thanks to a faulty connection. The back falls off constantly. The message sending symbol is permanently jammed on. Bluetooth still does not work. Picture messaging, MMS and wap do not work and O2 cannot get them to work for me.

This phone is not a good investment, I'm only glad it was a free upgrade, I'll be a lot more careful choosing my replacement!

Update - less than a year on, this phone also started switching itself off in the middle of calls.

Summary: In my opinion, a fun phone but not without its drawbacks.

I have experience of it, I'm just honest enough to admit that it's limited! Sometimes a phone has too many functions to grasp them all immediately. Probably the reason no-one else has reviewed it.... With the speedy introduction of new phones, any review is unlikely to be useful by the time I've used the phone to death. Thanks for your input though. :-)

"unfortunately I'm still learning to use it" - It can be quite important to have experience of a product before posting a review on sites like these. Imagine if you wrote a really postive review of the product and someone went to buy it but because you didn't provide a complete review you later find out the battery life is rubbish and the phone stops working (which could be a common problem) - you could have saved someone from spening £X. Even here you said you may or may not recommend - with more experience you'll probably decide either way. Please take a look at other reviews and you'll see the sorts of details you could include but will no doubt will have to be done over time (those who see it now - even potential buyers - won't know you've made any changes.

D :)
