Advantages: Good variety of features, cheap price

Disadvantages: Limited memory

The Nokia 6111 is the perfect example of the basic phone of the mid-2000s. Small, weird shaped and (at that time) feature packed, it was actually considered a mid-range phone at that time.

--- the BASICS ---

The 6111 is a 2G / GSM phone announced 11/6/2005 and released Q4 2005. The phone is a slider style and has a 1.8", 128x160, 256K colour screen. It runs on the Nokia Series 40 operating system, and is not a smartphone. It has 1 megapixel camera, an FM radio and an MP3 player. The onboard storage is only around 20Mb so the maximum one can store is around 4-5 songs.

--- USABILITY ---

(Sound and multimedia)
The phone provides nice and clear calls, the ringtone is loud and the screen clear. The provided headphone is useful and is stereo (for both ears). The music quality is acceptable. The FM radio has a reasonable reception.

(Internet and messaging)
There is GPRS in the phone and internet works at the maximum speed provided by this setting. As for SMS messaging the phone has good sized buttons for texting.

(Screen and camera)
The screen is nicely lit and crisp. It is not made for internet browsing but mobile-sized websites work. The camera provides 1152x864 sized photos - just short of 1 million pixels. The quality is good when viewed on the computer but by no means excellent. The video settings on the phone is QCIF 176x144, which is just viewable on the computer - nothing more.

--- CONCLUSION ---

The 6111 is a nice mid-range phone designed in the mid-2000s. It will no longer stand up against mid-range phones of the late-2000s - but it will be more than capable to stand up to the challanges of today. If you see any of these around cheaply (and by that I mean <£50) it is well worth the price.

Summary: Nice phone with a bunch of features that would easily beat the low-end phones of today.
