Advantages: Ease of use. Strong.
Disadvantages: A bit old fashioned
~ ~ In a mobile phone market that seems to change practically by the day, if not the hour, the Nokia 6150 feels like it has been around almost since the dawn of time. At this stage it is fairly well recognised as one of the better phones on offer, and for very good reason. ~ ~ The talk time is excellent, as is the stand-by time, and it also boasts some fairly handy features, even if they are beginning to appear a little “long in the tooth” when judged by today’s standards. ~ ~ The calendar feature which allows you to store reminders of friend’s birthdays, appointments, and anniversaries is a great idea, but falls down a little as it is very hard to actually use. You have to use the phone pad itself to input any data, and this is very awkward to say the least. ~ ~ You also have a directory for storing names and telephone numbers, but there is a drawback here too, as it only allows you fifteen “characters”, which often means you have to abbreviate entries to make them fit. There is a calculator function (which I’ve never used), and also a few rather simple looking games, which again aren’t up to much by today’s standards. ~ ~ Having told you the “minus” factors, I still think this little phone is a very good buy at the price. It is small and versatile, and it is far easier to get accessories for it than some of its more expensive rivals. ~ ~ It’s simplicity itself to work out how it actually works, which is a lot more than can be said for many phones, where you nearly need a degree in maths to figure out their functions. It also runs in the GSM mode, which means you can use it on your foreign holidays, unlike the old analogue models. ~ ~ A security code can be imputed to protect you from unauthorised use, and if you ever decide to upgrade to a newer model, all you need simply do is remove its tiny “sim-card” and insert t
his in your new phone, which means you are up and running straight away. ~ ~ While it is true that there are unquestionably more sophisticated phones on the market, this is a terrific little buy, that simply gets on with the job in hand without too much fuss and bother. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants a phone they can actually use, and not just another fashion accessory to dangle from their belt.

- 08/03/01 I love mobile phones and have found it to be difficult to sit and write a good op on them (although I got a crown for one of them!), this is a fantastic read and thank you for highlighting yet another great phone for me!! |
