Nokia 6230, Precision, Enjoy it

Introduction

The all-new Nokia 6230 is a stylish phone with features that leave you hypnotized style that makes you look twice, and speed that leaves you speechless. The Nokia 6230 is a Phone for people in all sizes, colors, and well not budgets 

The Nokia 6230 is aimed towards people that want features, and don?t want the hassle of lengthy menus and advanced options there not going to use. The first thing you have to decide is whether or not you want this phone, as your read ahead, ask yourself ?is this for you?? I can help you a great deal in the decision, the first step to choosing a phone is to categorize yourself. In my opinion there are two types of people, the PDA-lovers, and the non-PDA-lovers. If you?re a PDA-lover, then this is not a phone for you, this phone doesn?t have too many PIM (personal information manager) features, meaning that this phone synchronizes with popular computer programs such as Microsoft Outlook, but doesn?t synchronize well, however it does synchronize, and display PIM information better than its non-PDA predecessors. It lacks phone fields. And that?s not all it lacks (as compared to a PDA) it also lacks in Calendar fields, notes, Journal (diary), and a word & spreadsheet editor. If you?re a non-PDA lover, a person who would enjoy this phone?s features, and doesn?t need too many connectivity options then this phone?s perfect.

The Nokia 6230 is packed with style, from its hardened plastic cover, to its sleek feel and look. It?s suitable in both as an executive phone and a party phone.

The Features with a detailed explanat
ion
Phone Regulars - Personal shortcuts Alarm clock, Wallpaper, Calculator, Vibration (very strong), the usual Nokia phone features
Tri Band EGSM 900, GSM 1800, and GSM 1900 - This phone works in Europe, Africa, Asia-Pacific, North America, and South America where these networks are supported (contact your Mobile Service Provider)

Screen size, phone size, weight ? Screen size = 2.73 CM, Phone Size = 10.3 x 4.4 x 2 CM, Weight = 97 G, a small, sleek, phone, with a good sized screen

Screen Specs = The Screen is bright, and highly illuminated, and supports a huge range of colors, 65,536, which means the screen can display that many colors, the picture will look almost the same as on the computer, Image transfer can be done via software that comes with the phone

Camera Specifications ? 640 x 480, 0.3 Mega Pixels, this is the same as its competitors (besides the 7610, 1 Mega Pixel), and is a decent quality, for e-mail, MMS, and web-posting, unfortunately this does not look good in 4 x 6? (standard photo) Print

Video ? This is what makes this phone great, this phone can play and record videos, the limit (duration) to the playback of videos is infinite; if your memory card is big enough (see storage). This makes it great for long boring flights; you can convert complete Movies on to this tiny little phone. Whether it is your favorite Music Videos, Movie or TV episode, the 6230 plays it with ease. If you want to learn how to convert videos see below, Converting Videos. It supports the International Mobile standard of video, 3GP, H.263 codec, which means you can trade videos (up to 10 seconds, via MMS, see Messaging).
The recording quality is the same as all other MMS-Video phones. The quality is great on a mobile (because of its small screen), its unbearable on the computer, It really shouldn?t be viewed on a Computer Screen, its not meant for it, and if you are planning to burn this video on to a video CD, or send it to your friend via e-mail, it can be done, but I wouldn?t recommend doing that, the video will look stretched and pixilated. You can watch Live TV too!! (see Live TV)

Music ? This Phone finds itself in pockets of many Music lovers, as most people listen to Music, this is a great choice for Music on-the-go, it has an MP3 and AAC player, MP3 is the format you would find most files on a file sharing network, AAC is an upcoming format that offers better sound quality, and smaller sizes, if you?re an average user you?ll only ever use AAC for ripping(extracting) CD?s with the included Nokia Audio Manager software, ripping means to copy a song from a standard Audio CD and compressing it to a smaller format to save memory space, and to make your phone ?understand? the music. That?s not all, this phone offers a FM radio, which allows you to listen to the radio on the go, which is very handy, if you carry a portable radio, or if you just get tired of the MP3?s you have. Audio is crisp, and clear. This phone detects the volume of the surroundings and increases the volume automatically, to suite the surrounding.

Java ? Java is a technology built by Sun-Microsystems, initially for computers, but its mobile version J2ME (Java 2 Micro Edition), brings a new horizon of possibilities, the J2ME platform is a platform many mobile companies are building software on (see links for some really neat things thou
ght was never possible). J2ME is a format of applications, which are abundant on the net. Don?t like your phone?s inbuilt stopwatch? Download a new one? Can?t seem to view your notes properly? A new note-viewer is just an Infrared Beam away. If you?re a light gamer then Java is a great platform for you, with new games coming out everyday, and prices (of games) at only 2-6 GBP (Great Britain Pound). Buying new games is easy, go to the internet, on your Mobile or Computer, and select a game, type your phone number, and voila, you can start the download. The feature I really got impressed with is that some Java Games have an Online-Play feature, so u can play head-to-head with another player over GPRS. You opponent doesn?t even necessarily have the same phone as yours; it just has to be a Java phone.

Storage ? I would love to say that this is the first smart-phone (PDA-like) with a memory card slot, but its not, the Siemens SL45i is, but its one of the first. For me and many other people, having a memory card slot has come from being a luxury (it was expensive) to becoming a necessity, memory card slot prices have fallen and so has the demand for phones with them. If there is one thing you should be particular about while choosing your phone, is if its got a memory card slot. Memory card slots, are compartments for the insertion of memory cards that offer you more storage for videos, images, audio, and anything else your phone has to offer. There is one drawback, you have to turn off the phone to change the memory card, although this can be annoying, a Hot-swap feature, the feature to change the memory card without switching off the phone is only found the Nokia N-Gage QD, so there is not much you can do about it, since there is no alternative. This phone uses
the standard type of memory for mobile phones, MMC, MMC is widely available worldwide, and ships in sizes from 8 to 512 MB. Not having a memory card slot, means that you cant have too many videos if any, I created this small chart to help you get an idea of what mobile file size are, to help you choose a memory card size.

Movie (1 ½ hour)---------------------------------------50 MB
Music Video(4-5 mins) --------------------------------4-5 MB
MP3 128Kbps (good quality) 4 ½ mins------------- 4.5 -5 MB
Image (taken by the phone) ---------------------------50 - 55 KB
Software---------------------------------- ----------------5 ? 140 KB (when installed)

Messaging ? The phone provides you with a wide variety of messaging formats, and options. It can send an receive, MMS, the standard format of picture and video messaging, it can receive SMS, the standard text message format, and email. Don?t get too impressed with the last one, emails is only over SMS, meaning, you can?t receive, and if u send, u will be charged for every 160 characters. It DOESN?T open POP, SMTP, or IMAP, the standard email protocols. This is a drawback for most people including me, who really want to check their mail on the go. Well, there is one alternative, there is an application by a company called Req-Wireless (link below) for an application that allows this phone to overcome this problem, by adding a POP, SMPT, and IMAP client, in your applications menu.

Interface ? The Mobile has a good-looking, quick, informative, and easy to use Menu. The menu can be viewed in 2 views, Grid and List, in Grid the menu options appear in a Grid f
orm, which is great if u can memorize the user friendly icons, Grid view is also a good way to view it if you?re migrating from a Symbian Series 60 phone. Although the interface is good, it does take a while to master it. You can even change the color scheme according to your cover or liking, or dress (blue, green, orange?).

Connectivity ? This phone has Bluetooth, which is a rare feature outside of the smart-phone world, Bluetooth, allows you to communicate with other devices, including Bluetooth headsets, which work very well with this phone. The phone also has Infrared, and GPRS. You can ever use this phone as a wireless modem with your laptop, or PDA. This phone has great compatibility, for use in different situations. The phone has USB connectivity; USB is available on almost all computers for about 5 years! USB connectivity means that you can transfer other documents like word files, and use your phone as a Memory stick.

Battery Life ? This phone has an extremely powerful battery, which delivers talk time from 3-5 hours, and standby time from 150 to 300 hours, which is a decent battery life.

Guide ? I included a basic guide to help you have some fun

How to convert videos?.

Download Nokia Multimedia Converter Free from http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/0,,034-63,00.html you will need to register, and u will need to download Java from www.java.com
Once installed the software is as friendly as friendly can be, simply convert, transfer and play.

How to Watch Live TV?.
There are 2 ways to go about this, one is to contact your operator, watching TV is expensive; usually your operator will give you the best deal

The next way is to go to http://www.nrk.no/nyheter/nyhetstilbudet/3871960.h t
ml this is a 24 hour news channel for the Norwegians.

New channels are emerging, please wait, a lot of channels are being streamed over the air

How to get more games, multiplayer games?

www.javagameing.org , this site has a lot of games.

http://www.macrospace.com/games/cannons_me.sht ml this is a Massive online multiplayer game, lots of players, lots of fun

How to get software?

http://midlet.org/index2.jsp this is a free database of software and games, most work with the 6230, the email client I had mentioned earlier is available here

Good Op. Long- but good. Yeah, i'm the same as flup. I couldn't wait to upgrade my phone and opted for the 6100. The 6230 is a superior beast! I think - even after 6 months of being out - it is still one of (if not) the best handsets out there! hang on - i seem to have commented on this item before. I dont remember! God, i must be getting old!

I should have waited for and got this phone when in fact I ended up with a Sony Ericsson K700. Worst mistake ever.
