Advantages: Interface, design, loud speaker, camera
Disadvantages: It's made with plastic like a ready-meal tray is made out of, and wears like it too!
I have now had my Nokia 6280 for a full 12 months, and in a nutshell, it isn't going very well at all. Before I list the various troubles that I have had with it, i'll do it some justice and list some of the nice points of this handset.
1. It has a great interface, which is easy to use and very responsive unlike the Nokia N-series operating system.
2. The 2 megapixel camera punches above its weight. Don't bother with night time snaps, these always turn out nasty, but otherwise I have taken some really great photos with this camera.
3. The styling is simple and elegant.
Now anyone who has owned this phone and has nothing but solid reliability to report is a very lucky person because i have been plagued with unreliability for months now. Here are the faults that have arisen on my handset in the order in which they appeared.
1. Nine weeks from purchase, they number keypad ceases to function due to short-circuiting (build-quality flaw). Returned the handset to Nokia who replaced components and returned handset to me.
2. Slider starts to seize, gets jammed from time to time now.
3. LCD display dis-coloured, now shows diagonal streaks across the screen.
4. Back casing is loose, squeaks when typing numbers or text messages.
5. The buttons for 3, 6 and 9 on the number pad stick, I bought a replacement number pad on ebay only to discover that the sticking was below on the button connections themselves.
I have a lot of electronics and I always take good care of my belongings, but the build-quality flaws that have showed up on this particular handset are really terrible and no amount of care would have prevented them from occurring.
Nokia made its name as one of the best mobile manufacturers but they really let themselves down with this model, it feels cheap and flimsy, day-to-day use of this phone will only prove that this is the case.
The 6280 is offered today with cheap pay monthly tarriffs from the 3 network, my advice is that this is one to avoid!
Summary: Nice looking phone, but it won't last the length of your contract!

- 25/12/07 There are more in-depth reviews of this handset available online, this is merely a summary of good features and more importantly a detailed list of the particular problems that have arisen in my experience with it. |

- 21/12/07 A good review here. While I appreciate your giving us the nice points, this did end up being mostly a rant against this phone. I would have liked to have read more about the practical stuff, like the battery life and how well you can hear the calls and how well they can hear you. Also, a touch more about the operating system would have been helpful as well.
Also, I'd like to suggest you put your review through a spelling checker to get rid of most of the typing mistakes. Typing the review up in a word processor can help with that as well. All the best. |
