Advantages: a simple but stylish phone.

Disadvantages: sound quality can be a bit dodgy at times

When I started my job in May I was given a phone to use for work related calls. I was given the phone, charger and headphones. On first impressions I was amazed at the size and weight of the phone. It seemed to lightweight and was small enough to fit into a pocket. My current phone is a little large.

The phone is very cold to touch as it is mainly metal. My first task was to learn how to turn the phone on. It took me a while to discover that the on/off button was on the top of the phone. I am not used to Nokia phones and assumed the button would be the red button on the handset.

I was not given an instruction booklet so I managed to work out through a matter of trial and error how to add contacts, answer a call and change my ringtone knowing that I would be able to get the booklet after the weekend.

The phone was easy to use and I noticed that the menu bar at the top was only a selection of functions and my clicking the centre navigation button it was possible to open a menu on the screen. I played with the phone that evening and learnt quite a lot.

I charged the phone that evening and left it switched off over the weekend, it didn't need to be recharged until the Thursday afternoon. I still find that it only needs charging every 3-5 days which is amazing considering my personal phone needs to be charges daily.

The phone is ergonomically conformable to use and does not feel too bulky or heavy in my hand. The keys are so close together that it is quite common to type an incorrect number if I am not careful.

The phone has a variety of features and a few good games. The first feature I managed to find was the camera and this takes excellent photos. The final quality of photos is very good and with Bluetooth they are easy to print and copy across to a mate or onto my computer. The phone also has a radio and music player, I have not used this as much but gave it a little try. I have never understood phones with an MP3 player personally as I have a separate one but someone may be interested to know that the quality on the Nokia 6300 is pretty good.

The phone also has a calendar which I use quite a lot to keep track of any future events. I also use the alarm clock every morning; it has never let me down so it must be good. It is loud enough but not too much for first thing in the morning.

I always find it funny how people will choose a phone base on the extra features but will not look at the most important feature - making, receiving calls and sending/ receiving text messages. To me a phone needs to do these four fundamental tasks to be any good. The phone is brilliant although I do sometimes struggle to hear the person on the other side of the phone. I have noticed also that when dialling a number it will take forever to link the call. Apart from that the phone works perfectly although it is simple it is highly effective.

The phone ranges in price from about £60 - £130 although as my company purchased it with a contract it was free, so if you are looking for a simple but reliable phone then this is the one for you. Nokia are well known for producing strong, robust phones and is one is no different. The phone has been dropped a few times but is still working as well as it did when it was given to me.

Summary: A simple but relaible little phone!

I bought one of these when I lost my other handset last summer and still like it for its simplicity and functionality although I plan to replace it with something with higher specs.

Very nice review, just watch your typos - for instance, you wrote "needs to be charges daily" and you mean "needs to be charged daily".
