Advantages: Well built, Packed with features
Disadvantages: Dodgy sim card
I've had this phone for almost a year now, pretty much since it came out. At first it was up there with the best, but like all things it?s pretty out of date now. It has the same body and almost the same software as the 8310, but was marketed as the businessman?s alternative. Let me tell you what I like and don't like about this little number... This is one of the smallest and lightest Nokia phones. Most of the time I forget its in my pocket. This is very well built, and doesn't compromise strength for its weight. As it is lighter it doesn't cause as much damage each time you drop it either. The battery life was excellent when I first bought it. It comes with a little lithium battery, and easily outdid my 3330. It is packed with loads of extra features such as voice recording, which can also record phone calls, FM radio, voice activated commands and dialling which were all fairly new for phones. Unfortunately you can't just use any old headphones and you have to go out and buy expensive Nokia ones to fit in the hands free slot. I picked mine up on one of those popular auction sites for about £8. Reception is good for the size of the phone, but not brilliant, however it does store 20 presets. It also has a new approach to memory... It has a set amount of inbuilt memory (I think maybe 2mb) and you can 'spend' this how you wish. Basically it means you can either store hundreds of text messages or thousands of phone numbers, or any combination. This is quite useful although the time to open the inbox gradually increases as you get more messages, so you never want to store many anyway. Some grumbles... None of the games had changed. It has snake ii, bumper etc, same as my previous 3330, and I had been under the impression that you could download new games via Club Nokia and the phones high speed GPRS connection. However I gave this a go and all I could manage was to do
wnload alternative pinball tables, snake mazes or space impact levels. All very boring. There is a serious flaw in the sim card cover. Underneath the battery is where the sim card is kept, and it is held in position by the most flimsy plastic cover I have ever seen. This I believe leads to the following problem... Having typed out an entire text message you go to the send button to access a number from the phonebook and it just freezes, then resets the phone. You head back to the message composer and it hasn't even stored the message. Infuriating! It usually always works second time, and on average I would say it does this for 10% of messages. Overall this is a good phone, especially for the business user. For those wanted a slightly more interesting phone I would recommend the 8310, which is what I wish I had gone for! Oh well, it all about the colour screens, cameras and pictures at the moment...
