Advantages: Great features
Disadvantages: Expensive line rental
after having this phone since january i thought i'd best give it the credit it deserves and write a review on it. this is my second nokia phone so if you have already been using a nokia phone you will find using this phone easy as the menu's are very similar. this phone is just like a mini pda. the menu has been totally redesigned to look like a pda with all the menu options in a grid format with little icons to represent the menu, for example there is a little envelope for messaging. there are so many features on this phone. messaging --------------- this phone is capable of text messaging, multi media messaging and email as well. the messaging feature is really easy to work and the screen when your writing a text message looks like a notepad with lines on it. instead of selecting who you want to sent the message to after you have written your message, you first have to either input the number of the mobile phone or, if the person is in your list of contacts you can simply write the name of the person, just like you would do for writing an email. it has all the usual features and options such as a delivery messages. if you select to have these then they are put into a special folder so they do not clog up your inbox. there is a draft folder that you can store messages that you have not yet sent. the format of the whole messaging feature is cleverly laid out. when you go into your inbox, if you move the joystick to the left, it will move to my folders, which you can archive text messages, your email inbox, where you can retrieve emails by connecting via wap, the drafts folder, the sent items, the outbox and the reports folder. at the top of the screen there are tabs so you can select which folder or inbox you want to look at. once you have selected say for example the text message inbox all of your messages will come up and you are able to scroll up and down to select which one you want to
read. the screen will display three messages at a time and will give the name of the sender and some of the text message so you vaguely know the contents of each message before fully opening them. Sending mulit media messaging is very easy to use. To send a picture message simply select from the messaging folder to send a mulit media message. the screen will be just like the text messaging one and by pressing the left option key you can browse the gallery and select the picture you require. Calling and contacts ------------------------------ Calling some one is dead easy too. The joystick enables a quick access to the list of contacts. the instruction manual gives you detailed step by step instructions of how to add a new contact, how to add more information such as birthdays, email addresses, other contact numbers like work numbers and home numbers, and home address. you can add a thumbnail of the person too by taking a picture and adding the thumbnail to the contact. This is great as you can see the persons face who is calling you! When you are on a call you can have the loudspeaker on which is good if your busy doing something. the quality of the loudspeaker is really good and you can adjust the volume by moving the joystick left or right. When you are on a call, you can access the phones features so if the person is going to give you a phone number you can put the loudspeaker on, then dial the number and save it to your contacts, add any other information, save it and not cut the person off! As all normal nokia phones have, there is the facility to change the profile of the phone. This means that you can set up various profiles for the phone when you are in meeting you can have a silent profile set up so that you're phone will be quiet, so there is no need to turn your phone off and miss any important calls. if you do turn the phone off, y
ou will not miss any calls. unlike other mobiles this phone will send you a message of all the missed calls whilst your phone has been turned off. This is great as normally you wouldn't know who had called unless they left a message on the answer phone. As all mobile phones have there is the answer phone facility and you can personalise this by recording your own greeting message. You can set your phone up to recognise your voice and you can command your phone to dial a person's number and speed dials where you can assign a number to a number from 2-9. Be organised ------------------- As well as using this phone as a way of contacting people, you can get yourself organised by using the phones calendar, notes, to do list options. these are all useful and easy to use. As the screen is really big, it's easy to see the calendar. getting technicial ------------------ This phone is equipped with all the latest technology. there is a video camera which you can record 30 seconds and send it to your friends by either email or mulit media message. There is a camera so you can take pictures and send them! There is a separate compartment on the phone where it stores all the pictures and video's for easy access and you can delete them from here too. If you don't want the cost of sending a video or picture, you can send these by either infrared of bluetooth to your friends. You do however have to be in the same room to be able to send items though the air. Infrared can be used to send anything to another phone as long as both phones have this option. The same as blue tooth. But with blue tooth your phones can be apart and it will still send. You can opt to have the bluetooth on all day either as visible or invisible. this means that if another persons phone tries to search for other bluetooth phones it
will either find yours if yours is visible or not if you have selected invisible. When sending pictures you have to be able to "see" the other phone by searching for bluetooth devices on the menu. Once you have found the other phone you can send pictures free! the other person will have to accept the delivery or decline. The phone comes with an additional memory card so there is a lot of free memory to store lots of pictures or text messages. You can change the phones appearance by changing the theme of the phone. the phone comes with five themes which you can change and personalise. You can also download themes to make your phone look like Window's on a pc, and it even has the icons too! On standby mode you can have the two short cut keys to be what ever feature you use the most which is great. I chose to have messaging on one of the keys as I text quite a lot during the day and the other I have as the camera so I am ready to take a picture whenever, without trawling through the menus. Overall an exceptional phone that is crammed full of features and options to change your phone to reflect your usage and personality! I am very pleased with my phone. I got my 6600 free from "phones for you" and have it on contract with vodafone. My line rental was £50.00 per month to start with then after three months you can reduce it to as little as £12.50 per month with 50 free minutes per day.

- 14/05/04 Good review, ta. I thought about this one but have got so used to the mp3 and touch screen on my SE p800 that I don't think I'll upgrade yet, even though it's a year old now. cheers, John |
